r7 425 TP Review

I finally got to a place that was warm to try out my 425 TP. First a great looking head at address with a very slightly closed look (which was a suprise to me). It has the X 75 gram ROMBAX shaft and is an 8.5 lofted head. The sound is a very muted mettallic sound at impact, no clank like the r7 Quad. Some will like it some won't. It is a true players club and is very easy to work either direction. I would say it is high average in distance compared to others I have played with. Very slightly inclined to draw the ball even with two strips of tape on the toe. Not as long as the X-460 Tour or the XX Speed but longer than the Sasquatch Tour. It can tend to be a little distracting at times with the made for TV color scheme which is a little overdone in my opinion. As with all moveable weight TPs I left the weights behind for the dealer to use for demoing and just slapped on two strips of lead tape on the toe which is perfect for me. Since it is the 75 gram shaft I didn't need to put any strips up by the grip to counterbalance the lead tape this time. I guess the bottom line is I paid $799 for a higher end shaft with a .335 tip because I didn't need or want the weight packet (still the same red coin pouch looking thing). The headcover is the usual gaudy colored mess that probably should go away to avoid attracting attention. I would really love if TM made a magnetic closure all black one---that would be great. Not sure what the shaft is supposed to do in theory but it is as good as any OEM designed shaft to date. I still may put an NV in the club but so far this is a good shaft. I would say all r7 TP owners will not be disappointed with this club as it is an improvement in size, shape, and sound over the previous model.

Overall I still prefer the X-460 Tour (should have my own tomorrow and get rid of my demo unit) followed by the r7 425 TP, then XX Speed, G5, and then Tour Sasquatch. I can post pictures but at this point with so many out there who cares?

If you're going to possibly pull the rombax for an nv, why not go with the regular r7 425? Have you demoed that? Not knocking, just curious. I think I'll wait for the 460 TP to come before looking into TM drivers again, or maybe get an r5 TP cheap with the new r7s out.

Mostly because I wanted the open face (which it appears I didn't get) and more importantly the .335 hosel which I generally prefer over the .350 hosel if you have a choice. Also the r7 425 was little noisier than I wanted---also again if you have the choice I would prefer less noise.
