Hilton Head trip September 2019

Interested in info on Golf package providers and courses on Hilton Head and Bluffton. Four of us coming down for 5 nights probably 7 rounds. Planning to play 4 of the more expensive courses and offsetting the cost with some bargain-ish courses in bluffton. Need some local knowledge and advice from trip planners that have done this trip before. Courses recommended to us were Atlantic Dunes, Heron point, RTJ, Hilton head national, Oyster reef, Old south, may river, Crescent Pointe, Arthur Hill-Palmetto Dunes, and of course Harbour Town. Thank you in advance for opinions, ideas, and comments. Also we will be flying into Savannah and if there is a course in savannah worth playing we could do that and putz around the city have dinner there our fist day after landing> Tipsy

We did a similar trip...

Recommend Savannah Harbour for the round in Savannah.

We played all the Palmetto Dunes courses, Old South, Hilton Head National and were extremely fortunate to get on Colleton River (our reciprocal privileges there have dried up since then...). I would suggest you confirm green aeration dates as depending on the week you choose, you may be impacted. Perhaps others on the forum can chime in on this element (is HackerDave out there?)

A pretty good lineup of courses. I have never used a package provider so I'm not much help there. I know both Palmetto Dunes and Sea Pines have divisions that do that but obviously they promote their own properties. This past spring, and last fall, Sea Pines had a deal for AD, HP and HT for under $400. I would say that is well worth doing. Then add in a few other courses depending on budget. If you still have the cash, I might try May River. I say that having never played it. I have played RTJ probably 50+ times and never really tire of it. Oyster Reef is a solid track but they are getting a bit aggressive with their pricing in my opinion. Under $100 and its green light. Over $125 I think there are better options. Maybe I'm just biased because I have paid less than $60 to play it and I think asking $150 is nuts. Sure, Sea Pines cost more BUT the level of service is SO much higher. They really do it first class, although I think charging people to enter the resort is about as trashy/goofy as it gets. Tell them in the pro shop and they will credit you.

Everybody in our group loved Hilton Head National. Feelings were mixed on Old South. Most ranked it at the bottom of the list simply because the greens are so slow. If you have the pull, I would try to get on Belfair or Berkeley Hall. Both offer 36 holes but they are private. If you are looking for 36 a day, HH National and Old South are very close to each other. Obviously playing 36 is easy in Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes. It's been years since I have played Cresent so I really can't comment. Not sure if any of this helps, but good luck.

+1 on Sea Pines. I though things had gotten a little ridiculous when they started charging 160/180 for Heron/ Atlantic Dunes but with all Oyster well over $100 I'd much rather pay Sea Pines and get the full luxury golf resort experience.
