Selecting shafts or guiding a fitting session based on your favorite club

I am wondering if anyone has experienced this situation? I have a favorite club (Callaway X2 Hot hybrid with a Tour Green stiff shaft). This club has the correct weight and flex in my hands and I almost never hit a bad shot with it. So I'm thinking if I could set up my irons and fairways with a similar performing shafts and similar swingweight that would be a great way to get a well fit set of clubs. Has anyone ever tried to set up their clubs with this type of approach? Would this be a way to initiate a fitting session? Does a fitter really have enough information on how shafts compare to be able to match shafts from different manufacturers? For example, could a fitter be able to tell me what iron shaft would be similar to the Tour Green hybrid shaft ? Does this approach to selecting make any sense?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Dont think this approach would work unless you get lucky. An iron would have a different cg than the hybrid, so its launch and spin characteristics would/could be not optimized for you. Not to mention your attack angle would likely change, therefor that type of shaft may not be good for the rest of your set. As far as swingweighting goes, id tried to match your set to the hybrid tho and see how that works. Best to just go to a reputable fitter and get fit using actual data.

Each club is a fitting object of its own, but yes we can use some specs from a favorite club to find a fast starting point, so It cant be done quite like you describe, but your Hybrids play length and shaft weight and total weight is useful specs we can use. That clubs actual shaft flex and profile helps us so we can find a good stating point, but we would hardly ever find or make a 100% copy of that shaft and use that for other clubs.

Swing weight is not what most players think it is, so 2 clubs with different length or weight, but the same SW value will not feel the same on any of those specs so duplicating SW value is NOT useful at all. its totally useless so forget those.

This chart is for shaft weight progression, and then your hybrid at its actual play length can be used to find shaft weight for the other clubs in your bag (never mind the labels 2H, 3H or 4H, they are only helping labels, look at actual play length and shaft weight who is uncut as they are on the manufacturers web page.

...Club fitters expertise.....a few knows what they are doing, the majority dont, so dont expect anything, you will have to check references to find someone who knows what they are up to.

(Tour Green Hybrid is the matching shaft to Tour Green woods, but WEIGHT is the most important, so go by shaft weight, then we look at what options we got in that weight range)
