Kids Say/Do the Darndest Things - Golf

My 4-year-old yesterday told me to come out in the backyard, as he wanted to show me how well he was hitting the ball (he's four, but I usually have a net set up for him our suburban backyard, as our ranch home/detached garage/6' privacy fence are no longer sufficient to contain his better iron shots):

"DADDY WATCH! I CAN HIT IT SUPERSONIC SPEED!"

He immediately takes a Daly-esque backswing (shifting his aim a good 45-degrees in the process), swings at the ball, strikes the ball solidly, does a half spin afterward, somehow misses the 7'x7' net directly in front of him, hits it over the corner of our backyard fence and strikes one of the utility poles running between the backyards.

"HOLE IN ONE!!!"

... I had to take a moment to compose myself, as I didn't want him to think I was laughing at him, then I congratulated him on his epic shot.

Anyone else have a good/humorous story the share about their little ones and golf?

About 20 years ago, I was at the range - I was hitting a Cleveland launcher 460 (I think). My daughter, now 25 then then about 5 says you da man daddy. The guy in the stall next to me cracks up - (as was I, and my wife - who had told her to say that). When we were leaving, he says, I'll give her a dollar to say that to me after I hit a nice shot. We chuckled again, and went on our way. But, now 20 years later - it's still a very clear memory.

As is my memory of my younger daughter hitting the guy in the range/cart/cage - which I got on film, particularly funny (she was 14?) was how she turned looked at me and laughed - just slightly. Devious kid - now, she's a senior in college.

When my youngest daughter was about 6 I was trying to get her interested in golf (she liked basketball then and now) one day she stated very frankly that “golf isn’t even a sport daddy”, talk about being heartbroken!

Many years ago I was a PGA Professional at a private club. It was the Parent/Child Championship. The format was alternate shot. One of the better golfers at the club played with his daughter who was probably 6 or 7. And she was NOT a golfer at all. Very girlie girlie, with the blonde hair and ribbons. They finished their round and I asked her how it went...did you have fun? Straight faced and deadpan as could be she said "well, I hit it OK but every shot I had to hit was out from behind a tree."
