What is the story Aldila Proto

I guess it is still called the Proto, anyway, it is the blue shaft coming out from Aldila. I know it launches soon, but does anyone know if it will be a shaft choice on any of the 460cc drivers out there (like the x460 maybe) or will it strictly be an aftermarket upgrade? What kind of players is this shaft suited for? Can medium and high handicappers take advantage of it?

vs proto byyou ( and its blue so its "blew by you" ) they are good with names like NV ( envy ) and NVS ( envious)

The new VS Proto shaft incorporates Aldila's innovative new next generation Micro Laminate Technology featuring carbon nanotubes, combined with Aldila's proprietary A65 Performance Resin System, utilizing advanced high modulus graphite fibers, all synthesized into Micro Laminate Technology. The VS Proto offers unparalleled performance, consistency and feel -- the straightest, longest shaft that Aldila has ever offered. The VS Proto will begin shipping to leading OEMs and Distributors in April.

Currently torn between waiting for the VS Proto 70R or reshafting now with a UST V2 65R.

... these two shafts have almost nothing in common except similar torque. the v2 is very tip stiff and has that boardy feel i just don't care for. i am a swinger and can't feel any load with the v2. the trajectory is also on the low side. the vs proto is very smooth feeling and produces a mid high launch flat launch that doesn't balloon even in the 30mph texas winds i played the last 5 days... it is the most stable shaft i have ever hit. it really just point and shoot. the nano tubes make the kick point hard to locate, as they seem to make the whole shaft kick as opposed to a certain section. but it does have that nice tight kick and the dispersion is unbelievable. it is plenty long, but imo the real attribute is the consistancy it produces.

... it is still scheduled to ship on 4/15.

The info I recieved from Aldila was that they are only coming out with a .335 tip size initially and the tip on the X460 is .350, so you may have to wait until they come out with the .350 models.

That sounds like a good combo to me also, might be worth waiting for.

I could be wrong, but I think the UST V2 was the same way when it first came out.

You can put a .335 tip shaft into a .350 hosel head, you just need an adapter ferrule. Much easier than trying to put a .350 tip shaft into a .335 hosel head!

Realize the V2 and VS Proto are kinda polar opposites. However, I have an opportunity to have my FT3 reshafted by Callaway for a very reasonable price. My first choice is the VS Proto however it will not be offer by Callaway as an upgrade shaft for some time. Also have read some threads discussing the difficulties of reshafting the FT3, so my preference is to have Callaway do the reshafting.

... lee, i wasn't dissin your choice, and a hitter may feel very differently. i was just givin a swingers opinion of the v2. i think a lot of folks are gonna try the v2 and be very dissapointed. but if you have the swingspeed and you're a hitter, it is a different story of course. i have a long hittin friend and he is used to nv's and a ys power so he too didn't care for the feel.

... it isn't that tough reshafting the ft-3 imo. i did one with an aftermarket ferrule from golfsmith. it does take some attention and extra drilling, but if the v2 doesn't work out, you at least have that option. of course, the v2 is a pretty hot shaft, so you could also sell it outright if it doesn't work out for you.
