Southern AB - 403 - who's here>???

Just looking to see who we've got in Southern Alberta? Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and all points in between and nearby. Of course, anyone in SK or BC or the rest of AB is welcome, but I'm curious to see if there are enough of us for a meet&greet&play later in the year, once the snow melts.

New to Calgary.....can't wait for the snow to go.....

Calgary born and raised here, can't wait for the season to start!The RCGA range is cool, but the Dome stays open later so I am usually there.

I'm in Lethbridge...lots of folks in Calgary come down to Lethbridge in the spring since we often open weeks before you do...played 9 on a Par 3 yesterday...

I used to Live in Med Hat. Now living in Red Deer, I know of a few other Red Deer guys on here so I would imagine if we could line something up there would be enough of us

Calgary. Use to be that hardly a week would go by I wouldn't be at the RCGA -- 365 days a year. Not as much lately

Live just outside of Edmonton when I work & in Sylvan Lake when I'm not workin ... which will be most of the summer ...

I was driving up to Calgary from Montana last week and noticed people playing Golf! I couldn't believe it, lucky buggers! I was also impressed by the Nevada Bob's on Mayor Macgrath drive, that's the biggest Nevada's I have seen in a long time, and the staff was fantastic.

I agree! Considering the Nevada Bob's in Sunridge shut down recently, it was a surprise to me to see the one in Lethbridge so well run.

I live in a pretty rural area, but am seeing a girl in Leth, so I've been enjoying the use of the heated outdoor range there when i head down there to hit it.

With the warm weather down in these parts, it won't be long before the courses start opening, can't wait!

when do you think your courses will open?

What ranges are open in Calgary? I am sure in the a few weeks the Flames will also be at that range getting ready for the golf season.

Weather permitting Paradise Canyon opens March 19th...not sure of the other courses...

Neveda Bob's staff if very good but they haven't brought any of the new equipment in yet...they are corporate now so being run by the Forzani's group...let's hope they stay as good as they have been...

We played nine the other day but I am down in St. George Utah right now for a bit of R&R and some golf!!

Played paradise canyon on saturday and playing gleneagles this saturday, earliest I've ever played in Alberta.

What about the RCGA range? I've never been there; the one at Harvest Hill isn't bad.

The majority of Nevada Bob's in Calgary weren't shut down, they were simply consolidated into existing/new Sport Chek locations. Except for West Hills...that one is still a stand-alone store.

Clearly Golf Town has had a big impact on them, because NB's selection is now about 1/10 of what it used to be. The moves make sense from a cost-cutting perspective though.

How many of us are into trying to get a semi-regular game going? IMHO, it'd be cool to meet up with a group (or 2).

I'm in, and suggest May 15/16 weekend for a starting date. Location TBD, but preferably at one of our "home" courses. I can go anywhere, and any time.

I'm off to Calgary today until tomorrow evening, but will try to PM people when I get back to see if there's interest in trying to set something up.

Played D'Arch Ranch and Sirrocco which were great. Elbow Springs isnt worth what they charge.
Anyone play Speargrass or Gleneagles or Heather Glen?
Surprised quite a few ladies at the RCGA range.

Gleneagles - overpriced, houses everywhere and poor design(same guy as Silvertip which is no surprise)

Heatherglen - average at best, wouldn't bother

Speargrass - worth checking out, but I prefer Sirocco and D'arcy by quite a bit

Speargrass on a Monday or Tuesday is the best value for money within an hour of the Calgary city limits, bar none. $55 for 18 and a cart, and I really like the course. 2 of the most beautiful finishing holes I've ever played.

Sure, there are better courses in Calgary, for 2x the price.

FWIW the 10th hole @ Sirocco is quite possibly the dumbest golf hole I've ever played. Other than that the course is very nice, and also quite difficult.

I've played Gleneagles once in a scramble tourney, and it's nothing to write home about. Yes there are houses everywhere (my cousin lives on the course) but they keep it in such poor shape and it's often booked up fully for tournaments.

Most of the courses I've played in Calgary are either private or semi-private. I don't care much for Heritage (the Desert 9 is the only tolerable 9), Carnmoney is pretty good, Priddis is awesome, and I really like Canyon Meadows.

It just makes no sense. At most you can hit maybe a 5 wood off the tee. Then your approach shot is like trying to stop a 3 iron on top of a 15 storey building.

Hey everyone! New'ish to the board. Based in Calgary, play a lot at Elbow Springs, Gleneagles, city courses, Kananaskis.

When was the last time we had a May long weekend above 15C ... haha!

Oh ... forgot to ask, anyone know of any good grass ranges that are open yet? I know McKenzie Meadows has one, but not sure if they are using mats still this early.

Right close to Mckenzie Meadows is the Douglasdale Driving range, gotta be the best grass range in town and Jason Zuback (Former Long Drive Champ) practices there regularly. It is owned and managed by that Eaglequest company that owns that tiny little Douglasdale course down the street from it. You can see it tucked back in the neighborhood from deerfoot trail when you are driving.
