at least willing to keep an eye on you...if they have no interest they will either not email you back, or send you a polite email saying that you are not on their recruiting list for 20XX when you graduate.

What grade are you in?

Certainly keep him posted on your scores, grades, SAT/ACT's etc...keep the contacts moving forward.

How many emails/resumes have you sent out?

Are these colleges in Canada or the U.S.? The reason I ask is that in the U.S. "keep me posted" probably means you don't have the game right now however if you show improvement they may be interested in the future. Being that you are in grade 12 and haven't been on a recruiting trip yet also shows that you could be lacking in game and high tournament finishes. Recruiting trips are done usually in grade 11 and by 12 you are already signed and committed to a school. An extra victory lap may be a good idea however in the U.S. there are no victory laps so for your age you will be competing against "redshirt" freshmen who will already have 1 year of college golf experience under their belt minus being on the travelling team.

I was a travelling starter for a NCAA team for 4 years. I was not recruited out of high school however I got to meet a number of coaches prior to committing to a school in my junior year. Golf coaches can help you get accepted to their school without them committing a scholarship or a spot on the team to you. You need to meet with these coaches in person and show them that you are a hard worker, good student and have game. Once you get admitted you can "walk on" and try out for the team against the recruited kids, redshirts and wannabe golfers that think they have game but really don't.

Being recruited is great and all but that is reserved usually for the local superstar. If you are 1 notch below but can show you have upside to your game you can walk on and play your way onto the team and get a scholarship if you make the travelling squad.

My advice is to be aggressive and meet with the golf coaches on campus. Don't wait for an invitation because you may never get one. Give the coach a call and tell him that you will be visiting the campus and would like meet with him to talk about playing golf on the team. At 80% grades you may be borderline to get into some schools however the golf coach can vouch for you and get you in. The rest is up to you and working your butt off to make the team. Also when you meet with the coach ask lots of good questions about the team, the school and also academics. You need to show that you can play and contribute to the school. Don't act like he is doing you a favor either as there are many schools out there that he is competing against from the same talent pool. Who knows you can be the next Rickie Fowler and he won't want you to get away to a rival school knowing that you were once in his office asking to play on his team. Be humble and respectful but don't bow to him like he is god almighty. He's just a golf coach that can pull some strings for you if you catch his attention. Remember colleges are using you for your golf talent so in turn you should use the school to get the best education as possible.

Just my 2 cents from an ex-college player who's been there and done that.

Good Luck!

Yes it sure does. If a coach is not interested, he would probably not reply to your email especially if he's from a large school. They get so many emails he/she doesn't have time to respond to all of them. Now if the school is relatively small and he's not interested, he would say that his team is full, etc. I'd definitley keep him posted with scores. It's worth it especially if there's a scholarship available.

My observation would be that in general:

The Top 100 D1's have found most of their 2011 guys and they have verbally committed and will sign in the Fall. This summer they are watching their 2011 recruits play, and looking for 2012.

D1's ranked 100+ as well as D2/D3/NAIA are zeroing in on recruits to watch this summer to sign in the fall for 2011. Some programs will not sign until the Spring for a variety of reasons.

My question to the original poster is: Have you ever considered JUCO golf?
