45" driver to a 46" driver, what to expect?

If I am currently using the standard 45" driver and get a ball speed of 160's, what could I expect in a 46" driver.

I assume this is a 110 ss, so do you think it will add anything worth changing to? I believe I can control it so thats no issue.

Will I be able to take a smoother swing and get better results? Thats the plan.... also what is the best option to extend a shaft?

Well, if you can control it, expect to get about 10 more yards. The shaft will definitely play softer, though, and you may not like that. You can either reshaft or use a butt extension.

I am looking for it to play a little softer... it is an X now.

What will happen to the launch angle? I am looking for .5-1* higher.

Laungh angle will depend on your swing plane.

If your swing is fairly flat today, you'll see an increase of about 1/2 a degree with a 1" addition to shaft length.

If your driver swing is fairly steep today, you'll likely see no difference.

Tee the ball up high and play it forward - forcing yourself to hit up on it and you can increase launch angle by several degrees at will.

Adding an inch will increase your swingweight a few of points, off the top of my head, every 1/2 inch increase = 1 or 2 points higher. So say you have your driver and fairway woods matched at D1 or D2, with the additional inch, your driver will feel heavier., D4 possibly. Personally, I play a heavier driver shaft (Fuji. 76 grams, at 44.5 inches) and I think the weight distributed along the shaft leads to a smoother swing. I'm not sure if you'll get the same result with the swingweight increase coming from additional length.

You can experiment with backweighting to even out the swingweight issue. Once you've added an inch, tape a quarter or two onto the end of your grip. I know it sounds silly but you'll be able to tell the difference.

I agree that you'll probably find less fairways but if you can control that extra inch, more power to ya. There is an obvious reason that Pro longdrivers hit 47 inches and up. Longer shafts generally do equal longer drives, if you can control it. - Good Luck.

The feel change that corresponds to the swingweight change caused by lengthening the shaft will NOT be offset by backweighting - though the number on the scale will change.

Backweighting has no effect on head feel whatsoever.

adding an inch will raise the SW 6 points.

it will soften the shaft about 1/2 a flex

it will be harder to control if your swing is upright

it may be easier to control if your swing is flatter

on solid hits expect 3-5 more yards

This is going to my 460TP so I can add/decrease the weights in the head. 6 points seems like a lot though!!! And you say only 3-5 yards which I dont know if this is true.

The new taylor made 46" burner gets me at least 6 more mph on ball speed. So that in return is at least 10 yards. I assume the same here.
