Part of a new tribal casino complex. I know Notah Begay is involved in the design. It's a bit out of my territory for regular play but will certainly want to check it out at some point.

    Have they announced an opening?

    Here is their website: http://www.troongolf.com/troon_facility.cml?cmd=view&id=sewailo_golf_club

They were originally going to open in July 2013 but that has been pushed to October......hey, why not open when golf rates are at a premium here in AZ?

I dont think any course in Tucson has that much water...3,4, and 18 look amazing.

Range, Golf Academy Range and a Junior Practice Area?

Looks pretty nice, google maps already have images up. Keep scrolling in:

NBC Golf Analyst, Entrepreneur and 4-time PGA TOUR winner Notah Begay will explore the conference theme: Business Beyond Borders

PHOENIX, June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Valerie Spicer, Executive Director Arizona Indian Gaming Association, announced that Notah Begay III will be a featured speaker at EXPO/AIGA, the Southwest's Foremost Gaming & Business Summit & Trade Show November 6-8, 2013. The conference and trade show will be held at Casino del Sol Resort, Tucson, Arizona. The resort is owned and operated by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

"We are thrilled that Notah Begay, NBC Golf Analyst and the first Native American to be on the PGA tour, will address our conference," said Spicer. "In collaboration with Ty Butler, Notah designed the Sewailo Golf Club which is where we are holding our Desert Classic Golf Tournament on November 6." Sewailo Golf Club is the resort's 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course.

"Sewailo is a wonderful golf destination for southern Arizona," said Begay, a 4-time PGA TOUR winner and Founder of the golf course development firm NB3 Consulting. "This course was a unique opportunity to showcase the beauty of the Sonoran desert and the tradition of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Ty Butler and I had the same vision to transform a flat desert terrain into a dramatic golf course. It offers strategic holes, combined with a great range of shot values and aesthetics that is challenging but fun for players of all abilities. I'm extremely pleased that AIGA has selected it to be the course for this popular, annual tournament."

Begay, who also is a golf analyst for the Golf Channel, is founder of the Notah Begay III Foundation and Founder & CEO of KivaSun Foods, a Native American owned company with a global mission. In his keynote address, he will discuss how he reinvented himself by seeing and seizing opportunities in a borderless world.

Registration and exhibitor information, as well as Desert Classic Golf Tournament and Sponsorship opportunities, are available at www.azindiangaming.org or call (602) 307-1570.

The Arizona Indian Gaming Association is producing Expo/AIGA with Red Note, Inc. AIGA has a membership of 17 tribes representing more than 90% of the Indian people living on reservations in Arizona. AIGA was established November 21, 1994 by Arizona tribal leaders. The Association is committed to advancing the lives of Indian peoples -- economically, socially and politically -- so that Indian tribes in Arizona can achieve their goal of self-reliance. Current membership includes: Ak-Chin Indian Community, Cocopah Tribe, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Fort Mojave, Fort Yuma-Quechan Tribe, Gila River Indian Community, Havasupai Tribe, Hualapai Tribe, Kaibab-Paiute Tribe, Navajo Nation, Pascua Yaqui Tribe, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, San Carlos Apache Tribe, Tohono O'odham Nation, White Mountain Apache Tribe, and the Zuni Tribe.

Does it give any new info on when the course will finally open?

They are inviting special groups out to try it out lately. Buddy of mine played it a couple weeks ago and another friend is playing it this weekend. Sounds like its done and its really really nice. Oh and Nicklaus pulled out. They do still have the practice facility, its just not tied to him.

I played there yesterday in the United Way/UPS tournament. When you get to the casino you are shuttled to the course because they haven't even come close to finishing the clubhouse nor do they have a proper parking lot of their own yet. I've attached a few photos. Right now, except for the water features/streams/small ponds, it looks like someone threw some grass out in the middle of the desert. There are no restroom buildings (fancy port-a-potties are available); there were 2 waste baskets; there is hardly any signage and even the guy taking us out to our starting hole (14th) got lost.

The rough is fluffy so you could easily lose your ball if it sinks down. Not many blind shots from the regular men's tees or fairway. The bunkers have very soft, crumbly sand that lets the ball plug super easy. Take a sand wedge with a lot of bounce. The fairways were closely mown and inspire confidence. There are not many flat second shots, but if you're lucky/good you'll get some during your round. The greens were bumpy/new but closely mown even though they said to us they were getting ready for overseed. Putting was a challenge even though they were pretty quick.

If you have any questions feel free to let me know. We heard prices of around $100-150 a round and no one could tell us when they plan to officially open to the public. Overall, it was a fun track but if I had to pay that much to play it again I'd pass.

    Jeff

We are pleased to notify all of our friends that we have decided that our opening date will be December 12, 2013! The golf course has been complete for the last few months, but construction of the temporary clubhouse and cart barn have pushed the date until December. You will be able to begin making tee times by mid-November on our website casinodelsol.com, or on golfnow.com. We will also provide you with a telephone number to call for reservations once that is set up in the next few weeks. See you in December!!
