Berlin Golf

Hi all,

 

I'll be in Berlin for a week in October for work and was hoping to get out for a round at some point. I'm not planning to bring to my clubs since I'll probably only manage to get out one time and don't want the hassle and cost of bringing them along, so I'll need to find a place that loans out decent sets.

 

Hoping for some recommendations on a decently priced, quality course that has decent loaner sets. And since I don't travel internationally much, I'm not really sure what to expect so ideally a place that caters to English speakers.

From what I have read, Sporting Club of Berlin is the best in the area. There are two courses Faldo and Palmer. Not sure what the locals think of them or how highly rated they are.

well, actually there are only 3 courses located directly in Berlin - which are Gatow (former English), Wannsee (private & quite expensive) and Pankow (normal, inexpensive and quite nice, though nothing special). Keep in mind that Berlin is a large city, depending where you are it might be easy to visit one of the courses around Berlin in the province of Brandenburg (there are quite a few). But if you live directly in the middle of Berlin (like "Mitte" or Kreuzberg") it will take you about 1 hour to get to a course by car (if you know your way around). I live in Kreuzberg and it takes me about 1 hour to the courses north, east, west or south. No big difference...

Chanceman mentioned Sporting Club (which is located southeast of Berlin, a 70km drive out of the city), which is hosting a hotel (Arosa) and is on a lake (Scharmuetzelsee). They have 3 18hole courses (Faldo, Palmer and Stan Eby). It's nice there, but a longer drive!

If you know where exactly you will be staying I can make better recommendations and send you the links to the courses. They all provide rentals clubs, afaik.
