Caddie touching ball on green

I've read through several 2019 Rule Change threads...and am still trying to process some of the nuances.

2018- Caddie can stand behind line of golfer and essentially check (and change) alignment.

2019- Caddie can't stand behind player for alignment purposes once the player has addressed the ball.

2018- Caddie can't touch the ball on the green.

2019- Caddie can mark and replace ball on green.

So...question...we play alongside several Juniors that have all kinds of alignment lines on their balls. What's to say their Caddies don't mark the ball on the green...read the putt...and replace the ball with the alignment lines directly on-line with the intended ball roll?

Then go touch the green to mark intended speed?

I'm re-reading this and trying to understand the question.

From my understanding, even in 2018, Rule 20-1 allowed caddies to mark and lift the ball as long as they have authorization.

New 2019 rule allows caddies to mark and lift w/o authorization.

Alignment marks on the BALL IS 100% legal.

Aligning the PLAYER in 2019 is not legal.

To sum it up in 2018 and 2019, caddies are allowed to mark and align the BALL using the line on the ball.

In 2019, they are not allowed to align the PLAYER, nor with any foreign objects such as sticks or clubs.

Sorry if this does not answer the question.

Authorization is key.

In 2018, the player had to authorize the Caddie prior to each putt...otherwise it was a penalty. I suppose they could've indirectly "aligned" the player by using marks on the ball last year. But...we didn't see much of it last year b/c players were being aligned by Caddies directly behind them... adjusting the player's feet.

I'm wondering if we see a change in strategy this year...being that the Caddie can't align the player like last year...but start to align the player by feet perpendicular to ball markings.

In junior golf, I have never seen a daddy caddy "ask" his son or daughter if it was OK to pick up their ball.

I think this rule 14.1b is one where we can all ignore...

I agree I have never seen anyone ask to pick up the ball. Unless you're talking about kids that are really young playing like 4 or 5 it's pretty irrelevant. As a caddie how hard is it to remind them if they're not doing something like aligning the ball for a putt.

I'm talking 10 and under.

Reminding them they're not doing something =/= Caddie jumping in on every putt...and aligning the putt perfectly with the target line...and indirectly aligning their feet by telling them to stand with their toes perpendicular to the the lines on the ball (which are already aligned to the target line).

To me the once a kid hits 8 they have to get a lot more serious if they're going to play in tournaments. Most of the better kids make contact most of the time and can actually putt without much help. It's big jump from 7 to 8 year old in my opinion

It's the 7 and under group that has the most issues and sometimes you have kids really young playing at 5 years old that need a lot help. Usually not too many kids that age though.

However on the putting green the caddie can stand behind them as long as they back away and restart. Stupid but its there.

There was a 4 year old that played in quite a few events and she was by no means ready. Always shot 70 and above.
