Shot another personal low today(95). Small mistakes getting in my head...

Shot another personal low today. Still letting small mistakes blow up the score though. Have been working on accuracy off the tee with everything down to the 5I and that helped a lot, with 50% of the fairways hit today... 56% total including the 75% on par 3s

Also worked on getting more rotation in my swing and have increased my speed significantly. Was hitting my 5I off the ground to a 218 marker on the range before we played. A guy next to us actually walked over and got the distance with his range finder and still couldn't believe it. I drove #17 to within 20 yards of the pin. My next focus is going to strictly be putting and contact with the irons because I feel I could easily break 90 with little effort if I didn't have the problem of mishitting the irons and then missing easy putts. Playing partners said they'd get me lessons because they think I could actually be pretty damn good. I think they're crazy because today was literally only my 4th round ever, but I will see. We have a scramble next weekend, so hopefully, a lesson can maybe rein in my short game a bit

I know how you feel. I shoot upper 80s low 90s and very time there are usually 10 shots that stick in my head I wish I had done better and then I start thinking about the putts.

Sounds like course management and club selection off the tee needs to be improved if you are hitting this far. Then on a course with that yardage you could get down to sub 90 then hopefully sub 80. This will come with experience. I personally am switching to tees to play off a similar yardage to your course. On a hole like a 300 yard hole my game plan is just to hit two 150 yard shots, get on the green / near green then hopefully get down in 2.

Also your putting needs work it seems! Could shave off 5 shots pretty quickly working on that.

I have a solid game plan for my muni that I've played 3 times now, but this was a new course. A couple of bad shots got in my head and it went downhill immediately... as evident from the triple off the start lol. I bit the bullet and scheduled a lesson for the 13th of July and will try my best to get a lesson in at least once every week or so after that. I don't think I'll ever be anything great, being that I'm already 33 and just starting, but I feel I can get to scratch. I honestly didn't think that I would get addicted to golf in 2019. I recently bought an Indian Scout Bobber and thought my summer would be filled with long motorcycle rides haha

^ Crazy how it can hook ya eh? I just sold my dirtbike, and we haven't even got the boat out of storage and gone fishing yet this year. After getting back into golf a couple seasons ago and getting my pal into it for his first time, we haven't had much time for other hobbies it seems! Fellow mid 90s shooter here whos trying to break into the 80s this year haha I dont think I'll ever get close to scratch, but I'd be awful happy to be shooting in the 80s consistently.

Scratch is my main goal. In life, I’ve always set high goals that seem unreachable, but also set smaller goals that are more attainable to keep motivated. Like right now I have a breaking 90 goal and a list of what I feel I need to work on to get me there. Then once I’m consistent in the 80s, I will maybe do a breaking 80 or 85 goal with a focus list for that.
