first off congrats! not sure if it's your first, but holding and caring for your daughter will be a million times more amazing that you can ever imagine. good luck w/ everything.

to those that have not gone through the experience, generally there is just a lot of waiting. contractions come and go, nurses come and go. i mean, the doctor isn't even physically there until the end most of the time. a lot goes through your mind and relaxing is a good thing (even for the dad). of course, my wife would kill me if I did it but if your wife is cool with it more power to you!

Ahhh...now I can close out this thread. Baby girl! 6 pounds, eleven ounces. As you could probably tell, I hadn't slept in nearly three days, and some of my posts (including a few elsewhere, and my pardon if you read them) were a little out there. I really didn't putt all that much. The doctors had told me that this was not going to be a short process, and that I should bring something to do so I wouldn't be putting pressure on my wife to produce our little one.

I did annoy her once and that was the (self-imposed) end of things. The in-laws were fine. When they went in to visit, I went into the hall and putted a little. All is forgotten now anyway, as our daughter is occupying our thoughts constantly, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm just waking up from a nap now that the grandparent relief watch is with my wife. No sleep really messed with me.

Anyway, thanks again for all the good vibes!

(any fitting advice for a newborn? no?)
