The Longest "Softest" Straight Ball?

LUMA

Recommended Posts

Hey ball buddhas...

I have tried out the prov1x and although it is a great ball, I cant deny the softness around the greens of the prov1. Although you loose a little distance off the tee with it. What is the longest, and straightest ball with the short game control, spin, and feel of a Prov1 or Z-Star? I am thinking of trying out the B300S...

If you believe any of the sales pitches from the premium ball market, then all of them. There isn't one ball that doesn't claim to be soft, long and have good control. If you are specifically wanting straightness, you're out of luck. If you can't hit a premium ball straight, then you can't expect a ball designed to allow maximum control and shot shaping capability to have much forgiveness in this department. If it's not going straight, it's basically down to your input.

Yea, go pick up any box of new balls and they ALL say/promise the exact same things.
As for your stating that a ProV feels soft... that puzzles me. It one of the high compression balls on the market. On a short chip it may feel soft due to the urethane cover (as do all other urethane balls).
As the previous posted noted.... if your ball isn't going straight, its not a result of the ball.

Last years ProV1 was the highest compression of all the previous versions and its compression was in the mid to high 90's. The only urethane balls with lower compression are the Zstar, Red LDP, RX/RXS, and the FG Tour. Not sure if the 2011 will be harder, but every urethane ball on the market other than these have higher overall compression than the ProV1.

Keep in mind that manufacturers (except Srixon) only list core compression in their marketing to make these balls seem softer.

Actually the 1996 version of the ProV1 was the highest compression (although it has a softer covering), not this years version.

Besides... unless a compression rating is greater than say 7 to 10 points... a person won't/ can't notice the difference anyway.

The ProV1 was released on tour in December of 2000 and to the public in 2001.

Thanks for the input guys. It's not a matter of my ball not going straight... I was talking about spin on long shots. Some will spin more with the type of shot added than others. I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing. either you get tons of spin or a rock. idk... I guess I'll stay with Srixon.

ZStar does everything well. TM Red LDP or Tour D tie for 2nd.
