X Balls vs Non X And Swing Speeds

I am trying to figure it out. I have a pretty good driver swing speed. Not sure what it is but I get the ball into the 280's if I really crack at it. Now, I have played both X models and the regular tour balls and I prefer the soft feel of the non X balls personally. Now if I used an X, would I really see a distance difference? Also say your swing speed is in the 90's with a driver, would you see more distance off the driver with a X? Or will these balls only produce more distance if hit harder?

Sorry if that didnt make sense lol... but I think you get what I'm sayin. I have seen guys hitting ProV1X's and Z-StarX's and they arnt gettin more than 250 off the tee and they claim they play the X cuz it gives a little more distance off the tee. I'm not sure if a swing with less power will give you more distance with an X than with a non X. If it really does, then I may swith back to the X but man do I love the softness of a non X ball.

Except people like me who are benefitting from the reduced side spin the X- balls provide, therefore gaining distance. While I know I am ripe for a swing fix, the pro v 1 X takes pretty good care of it. That being said, you need JUST ENOUGH swing speed, for me it is 98-102mph. I am real close to being able to use it, for instance when the temp drops below 50, I have to switch.
I wish I could use cheaper balls, but no way will I use a ball with no short game.

I was under the impression that if you don't have a fast enough swing to compress an X ball, it will give you more side spin on your drives because you are only reaching the "spin" layers, not the inner driving (go straight and long) layer of the ball.

Not being able to fully compress a ball will lose distance, but not being able to put enough spin on the ball will cause the ball to fall out of the air prematurely and lose carry distance for you as well.

Also, a golf ball cannot control which direction it spins, only how much it spins. So balls that have "reduced side spin" just spin less overall.

Makes sense, I am probably just benefitting from the reduced overall spin with the prov 1X. My swing speed is enough, but my problem is very high driver spin. If I play a regular pro v1, it feels great but accentuates my miss- steep, out to in. I actually have improved/ fixed my problem greatly, so luckily can probably play any ball now. Won't be buying any XX tour shafts anytime soon though. :D

If you notice, most of the ball manufacturer's are no longer advertising balls for swing speed.

Look at the boxes. They now have "distance", "feel", "launch", "spin", etc, etc, etc

Off the driver (especially) it's all about launch angle and spin to get your best distance out of your swing speed.

e.g. V1x spins a bit less than the V1. If you're a high launch and/or high spin player you may benefit from the lower launch and lower spin V1x.

If you're a low launch and/or low spin player you may benefit more by playing the higher spinning V1.

As for approach shots, chipping and putting, it's more about how YOU like the feel and action of the ball. THAT could prove a problem if they're 2 different balls.

From Titleist.com

Can slow(er) swing speed players benefit from Pro V1/Pro V1x?
Pro V1 and Pro V1x are Titleist’s tour performance golf balls designed for all swing speed players. All Titleist golf balls are long – regardless of swing speed. Differences between models off the driver for swing speeds ranging from tour players (near 110 mph) down to lower speed players (in the 80s mph) are less than 4 yards - and that distance is not game changing or score changing. Game changing differences are found on the scoring shots into and around the green, and the Pro V1 and Pro V1x offer the most performance control on all shots. Golfers of all skill levels and swing speeds play Pro V1 because of this real performance benefit.
