Help!!! What to do????????
Now, the impossible has happened, I've got the yips with my long putter that I did not dream that it's possible that it could happen. What in the frucking hell do I need to do? Quit golf? Nah, I can't stand not playing any golf at all. Or maybe just putt with 3 wood or what? Hmm, I might try that tomorrow. :clapping:

I've had the yips with regular length putter for few years but now after today's MO Mid-Am round, I had yipped 3-5 very short putts with my long putter that I did not dream that it would be possible that it could happen. Has anyone heard of any yips with long putter or not????? I'm getting so frustrated that I feel that I might as well quit competition golf from now on.

BTW, my new 735 irons really rocks.

Never heard of yiping a long putter, but obviously it can happen. What I read somewhere is you need to make some kind of drastic change, either to your grip or putting stroke. I would think the grip would be easier to try to change. Maybe try looking at the hole instead of the ball while you putt? Just a couple of thoughts...I dread contracting that disease..

Bill,

Are you having trouble seeing the line?  I had a friend, who I swear to God was the best putter I ever saw.  I was having some trouble and he told me to set the putter down a couple of inches behind the ball and then start the stroke.  Why it worked, I don't know, but it helped me out.

I can see the line just fine but my problem is occuring on my followthru. It seems like I have hard time getting my downstroke started going though the ball properly. I would yank it left or leave it open, it seems like my right forearm isn't cooperating with rest of my stroke. I guess like someone here said, I might be screwed for the time being unless I can get something fixed fast.

I will try what you suggested tomorrow. :clapping:

:clapping:???

how about sending me some of what you're smoking, because they said the same thing about long putters - and frankly, if one can get the yips with one putter they can get them with any putter --- just ask Mr. Langer

Obviously, you've never tried it. I can't ever get the speed right on long putts with it, so it's not in my bag, but the weight of it will not allow you to use your wrists on short putts. matt

Bill,

I just went through something similar, where it felt like my forearms were getting in the way and either rotating or leaving the blade hang way open. For me, I had to make sure I wasn't getting the putter too far inside too quick. What helped me was thinking about keeping the putter outside of my hands on the way back, if that makes any sense.

or...

Get two phone books and place them a little more than a putter head width apart. Then put a ball just in front of them, so your backstroke and through stroke travel fully between the books. This should keep the putter tracking nice and put it in a position where your forearms don't have to do anything, making them feel and react like you think they should... It's worth a shot anyway and if all else fails there is always gardening and cards :cheesy:

BILL,

I FEEL YOUR PAIN. THE YIPS ARE A MENTAL ISSUE AND YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REGAIN SOME COFINDENCE OR THE GAME IS NOT GOING TO BE ANY FUN! YOU WILL NEVER BE CURED, BUT YOU CAN CONTROL THEM. I WOULD GET TO THE PUTTING GREEN BEFORE A ROUND AND START TO EXPERIENCE THEM PRACTICING, SO I KNOW FIRST HAND HOW DEPRESSING THE AFFLICTION CAN BE. I TRIED LEFT HAND LOW, SHORTER PUTTERS, LONG PUTTERS, THE HEAVY PUTTER(MY OWN LOADED WITH LEAD POWDER) NOTHING WORKED. I WAS GIVING A FRIEND A LESSON WITH HIS SHORT GAME(NOT PUTTING) AND EXPLAINED THAT IF THE LEFT ARM AND HAND(RIGHT HANDED PLAYER) ALWAYS LEAD THE CLUB FACE HE COULD NOT CHUNK IT. IT DAWNED ON ME THAT IF I CONTINUED THAT THOUGHT TO PUTTING IT WOULD IMPROVE MY ACCERATION THROUGH THE BALL. I WENT LEFT HAND LOW, REWORKED MY ROUTINE,RAISED MY HEAD A COUPLE OF INCHES, WHICH KEPT MY HEAD AND EYES STEADY AND PRACTICED DAILY. YOU MAY NEED TO OPEN YOUR STANCE A LITTLE TO ALLOW THE PUTTER TO RELEASE, IF YOU ARE CLOSED IT RESTRICTS THE ROTATION. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE TRUE YIPS ALL SEASON. I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO WORK AT THIS FOREVER, BUT YOU CAN OVERCOME :clapping: :cheesy:
