Once properly fitted, what's the difference?

With all the talk about properly fitted shafts around here, I feel like I've learned a lot about what's important in searching for the right club. But ironically, I find myself left with the same questions I had when I found this place a few months ago. Once you've been fitted for shaft, lofts, lie angles, grips, and anything else you can possible be fitted for, does the club matter...AT ALL?

I'm speaking specifically about drivers, since that's what I'm in the market for, primarily. As I've posted about a few times, I'm looking at all my options at the $300 price point, and I'm leaning toward the Big Bertha 460. But really, the only reason is that I'm a fan of Callaway. I've also been looking at the Ping G5, the Cobra F Speed, the Nike Sumo and even the Mizuno, which always catches my eye. It's gotten to the point where my decision is being driven more by looks than anything else, since I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the big differences are. I'm also basing this only on demoing them in Golf Galaxy, which might be a mistake.

But still, my question is this: for a guy who plays to around a 20 handicap, will there be any discernable difference between any of these?

I understand bro. I can empathsize. Some people have brand loyalty for whatever reason, whether its customer service, or prestige factor. Some people like to try different things. No right/wrong answers obviously.

Whether one is better than the other, can't really prove it. Everyone is different.

Its a good idea to pick something YOU like regardless of what people say. If thats based on what people review, then that's fine. You'll improve or your taste will change, and get something else in the future. You'll be more knowledgable then too! :drinks:

You want to view the fitting process as an opportunity to fine tune equipment to your swing...

It can help to a degree...

Most golfers, like yourself, will not benefit immensely from the fitting process, unless your current equipment is extremely ill-fitted for you...

So to answer your question, "No"...

Lessons will be more effective than fitted equipment...

It's good that you are putting in your homework and getting the information. As a 20 HCP you have the room to improve if you are going to put the time in so...

With the right shaft most new heads will work fine, I like the Callaway 460 and older TM models that you will spend less money on.

If you must spend the big bucks, some of these faces are faster than others like the Rapture and Callaway FT series.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that too -- I have a series of six lessons coming to me in April, and I won't be making the purchase until then. I want to get my major swing flaws worked out before gtetting fitted, since I imagine it would be counter-productive to get fitted based on the terrible, slice-producing driver swing I have now.

You will just like one better than the others, maybe without a good reason. Could be due to brand, feel, weight, sound or almost anything.

I have seen a lot of people going to try the new ft5 & ft-i, and come out liking the BB460 as well or better than the more expensive ones. I like to keep brands matching.
