How to get your lower body involved more

Anyone have any ideas on how to get your lower body involved? I feel like if I get too tight with my legs I can't turn as well.

i have spent a lot of time on this because the benefits are enormous. imo, if your lower body including feet stop, there is a chain reaction all through the body where everything else stops. it can lead to flips, ee, all sorts of things.

 

i could write a book. but, in summary, it starts with being balanced in your feet just behind the balls but before the heels. you have ROLL your thighs while your hips go back and forth. for example, your right thigh needs to roll outside while your pressure gets into your right heel while your hip goes back. this may move your right knee a couple of inches back in order to achieve. too much knee movement means you are not doing it right and is actually a sway not enough knee movement means you are not achieving a deep, full hip turn.

 

almost all amateurs i know don't do the above properly. if your thighs roll outside then they can roll inside on the downswing which is very powerful. if your right thigh turns IN on the back swing there is nowhere to go on the downswing, you stall or flip or get armsy, whatever....

In my coaching experience it's either a posture problem or a physical limitation stopping you from moving your legs. Go look at a golfer who you can bomb it miles and you will see lots of hip turn and leg movement both back and through. They are one of the keys to building power in the swing in my opinion. If you are serious player then go get a screen for physical limitations and a movement professional will help you out more than a golf pro if there is a problem.

The answer to why lower body isn't active enough is almost always it couldn't be the way things currently stand.

 

The lower body locks up and stalls as a necessity.

 

You're out of position and have mismatched parts. You fix that, then you can create more activity...and maybe it happens by itself.

 

In other words, your lower body is not working properly to compensate for other faults.

I feel that everyone talks about starting from the ground up and pushing into the ground to gain power/strength/distance etc. I have pretty powerful legs from being a soccer player but I feel that I get out of sorts when I try to push to hard or squat in my swing and still try to stay balanced and loose enough to rotate.
