Counter Balancing A SC GoLo?

I want to purchase a GoLo and counter balance it. I've messed around with the TM Spider Blade 38" counter balance and I like that length for an arm-lock stroke.

 

Should I be looking to purchase a Mid and cut down or a standard and extend/re-shaft?

 

What are ideal weights in sole plate and how much weight should be added under the hands?

 

I'm thinking that a simple bolt and nuts secures inthe butt of the shaft should work but I'm very open to suggestion.

I converted a 34 inch SC Del Mar and it turned out AMAZING. I extended the shaft by 4 inches with a spare graphite shaft (regular putter extension works fine also) to play at 38 inches. I used a SuperStroke 17 inch belly putter grip which weighs 85 grams and a 5/16 inch headless bolt in the butt end (Looks like this >>> http://bit.ly/1eIAqYU ). The bolt will weigh about 85 grams and I got it at my local hardware store. I wrapped double sided grip tape around it, then put grip solution in it and shoved it in until it was flush. If it is too small, just build it up with more grip tape...shouldnt take more than 5 wraps. If you don't use a SS grip, I would recommend that you get the grip + weight to be about 170 grams total. I had to add 20 grams to the head via 25 gram weights from 15 gram weights. You can test what weight feels the best in the head by taping nickels to the sole after you finish putting the grip on. One nickel weighs exactly 5.0 grams.

To me it turned out having the same balance as the Taylormade Counterbalanced putters except an overall heavier weight which definitely feels better. It is not super heavy like the Odyssey Tank, but is heavier than the TM.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually went with an Odyssey ProType 2 Ball. I got it for a steal on Callaway's Pre-owned site, brand new. I bought a 35" and put in a 3" extension, and put on a 17" Winn grip. I also put 50g of tungsten stick-ons in the head, 24 grams of lead tape under the grip, and a 50 gram Tour Lock Pro weight plug in the butt end of the shaft. This is by far the most stable putter I've ever used and is a beast. The weight feels great and the grip/extension fits my forward press-arm lock stroke. The deep milled face of the ProType gives plenty of feel and feedback even with all of the added weight. I just couldn't justify the price difference for the GoLo over the Odyssey.

Use optivibe or tour lock. You can move the weight where you want and make quick adjustments. Cheap weights and lock in. Cut a hole in the grip and move around until feel is right and then regrip.

I converted a 43 inch Rife Barbados belly putter with a 400g head to counterbalance, by cutting to 37inches. At first I just cut the stock shaft and grip at 37inches and then played with the putter while adding various weights in the end of the shaft. In the end I liked it with about 100g total weight in the grip, the belly shaft is larger and heavier than a regular shaft. I had a hard time finding the perfect grip due to the size of the shaft (0.62), in the end I installed a Super Stroke 21 inch belly grip at 144g, and tried it that way for a while, but eventually cut off the lower 6 inches to get it to the correct weight and length. I love it now and it feels like a lot like a tank.

I am coming from a belly putter and really liked the weight, but it does take a while to get used to it.

I cut down a mid to 34". I had to put an 80 gram weight in the butt end from Golf Works. Beware, the putter shaft size on the Golo mids are the Cameron ski poles. No regular grip will fit outside of the largest Super Stroke if I remember correctly. I had to get the shaft pulled and a normal sized putter shaft installed.
