Mizuno JPX 825 vs. Pro

Recommended Posts

Went for a fitting and got it narrowed down to two clubs. I hit the Callaway APEX the most consistently and farthest and the Mizuno JPX 825 came in second place. The price difference is huge obviously and my question is what’s the biggest difference between the JPX 825 and 825 pro aside from ones forged and ones cast-I really like the feel of forged clubs and am looking for a club I can use over the next years as I improve. I have read that it isn’t as forgiving. I would rather put up bad numbers in the interim as I work on my swing than buy a new set of irons in 2 years. Going to swing them both again tonight to get a feel but was hoping to get some thoughts from the community.

I feel like the pro’s would be a nice compromise between the apex and 825s.

Don't take the whole bottle of "forgiveness" medicine. That notion is waaay overrated.

As Charles Howell III said, "If my son or daughter started playing golf, I'd start them on pure blades because that's how you learn to feel. It's how you get better."

You don't have to go that far, but both 825's and 825 Pro's are massive oversized clubs in my eyes. Too big for my tastes. I wouldn't choose one over the other based on getting your misses graced because of "forgiveness". The Pro's are not small.
I whole heartedly agree with both Ericid and CH III, as this is how I was started in the game and all I've played for 46 years are blades. However, since your question was 825 vs 825 Pro, again, I believe that Ericid was spot on regarding "forgiveness" and I really think that the Pros would give you more flexibility shot wise and their sole design(thinner) would give you more flexibility out of the less than ideal spots and lies that your balls probably occasionally find them selves :)

Regardless, they are both nice irons and if possible, try to play both or at a minimum, hit them both off of grass, and a lot of guys take this for granted or sometimes overlook it, though you should make sure that you hit the iron with the shafts that best fit your swing and that you are going to buy. Mizzy has a great fitting cart so that should be no problem.

Whatever your choice, you're gonna have a great iron in your bag, as ie played em since '86. They're sweet!

The 825 Pro specs are on top-

Have a great season Bro :)

The JPX 825 Pros aren't all that much cheaper ($50-$60) than the Apex irons.

If you choice is to be made based on your budget, the JPX 825 are really the only iron that will save you a decent amount of money.

If you are willing to spend $900 on a set of JPX 825 Pros, then why not spend the extra $60 and get the irons that you hit the best?

If you are worried about growing out of those irons, then give the Apex Pros a look. After all, you hit the Apex irons better than the JPX 825s. Based on that, the Apex Pro may suit you better than the JPX 825 pro.

That said, you should really hit everything side-by-side before you make a big decision.

Went back to the shop to try them side by side again with some fresh arms. the apex's did feel a tad better, and the pros felt better than regular. I ended up going with the pros so thanks for all the advice.

on the price difference-i was able to get a "fine" or a 5/7 rating on the pros at 500 bucks with the shaft I needed-couldn't find a decent used apex's with any shaft for under 900, the shop had them at the msrp of 1099.

thanks for all the advice- A lot of it was in line with what i was hearing from biased sources as well. at the end of the day, gotta swing what feels the best regardless of what the standard "rules" are. looking forward to a great season and I'll be around.

Congrats. You will like them. They are a good balance of player vs game improvement iron.

You aren't comparing apples to apples. Those are prices for a 7 club set in the JPX and an 8 club set in the Apex.

JPX 825 Pro, 4-PW, steel shafts = $899.99
Apex, 4-PW, steel shafts = $964.99
Apex Pro, 4-PW, steel shafts = $962.99

These prices are directly from Golfsmith.com.

The 825 Pro irons retail for $899.99 for a 8 piece set so $787.50 for a 7 club set. The Golfsmith Web site say 4-pw &Gw I hope this helps
"Massive"? I play neither but after owning over 30 sets of irons "massive" seems a bit much. To each his own but I assume your also a too offset, thick topline, huge sole type.

825 pros are 4-GW (8 clubs) for $899. You stand corrected.
