Please help me to identify why I'm hitting fat shots

Hi there,

 

I'm new to golf (6 months) and have a high handicap. On some days I can hit some really solid shots but on others I totally blow it. Please help me to identify why I'm hitting a fat shot here. My head is steady behind the ball and my weight is forward.

Very strange - no sway, you are clearly "weight forward"... Maybe try the old "desenex drill", and spray a line on the ground, attempting to take a divot on the front side of it. I wish my swing looked that good after only a few months of golf...

Not a golf instructor or the like just a simple hack trying to get around a course

But I have found on [b]all [/b]my fat shots I am too close to the ball in my stance. I feel cramped and feel uncomfortable in my swing. Almost like I am bunching up my body too much. IE Arms too close to body, too upright in my stance no room to feel free in my swing.

Now this may or may not be what is the issue with yours but a behind shot of the swing might give those in the know a chance to see if this is it or something that Front On might not show.

I second this. Check your distance from the ball. If we had a down the line view as well it would be easier.

You seem like you are standing straight with little bend at the waist. Again, easier to see with the other view.

I agree your weight is forward....looks like for the whole swing. You need to transition your weight on the back swing to your right leg, that way you can get your left shoulder over your right knee on the back swing to somewhat coil yourself to be able to unwind. Then as you make a downswing you need to transition your weight to your left side.

Look how far your head drops down during the swing. You are not swaying, but because your head is dropping down 5-6" the center of the swing also drops that far causing you to bottom out before the ball.

As Feherty says, "It will cause you to hit so far behind the ball, it will be added to yesterday's score."

Thanks guys for the many replies! My guess for this particular fat shot is that I'm flipping the golf club. I will do the (Slicefixer) 9 to 3 drill and hope that this will solve my fat/thin shots.

Fats shots result from an inconsistent low point.
You are handicapping yourself greatly by lack of spine tilt at setup.read my recent suggestions on setting up in the 9-3 forum.

I've already started to use Reverse K for the setup.
