Failure to replace ball . . .

Let's say you were playing in a tourney and you realized, about two days after holing out for par (the best ball for your team) on a hole, that you had not replaced a ball the one putter width your opponent had asked you to move it when he putted. You finish in the money by 1 stroke.

 

(A) what would the penalty and procedure have been had I noticed it during the round but afte rht ehgole was played? and

 

(B) it's too late to disqualify ourselves, so do I just have to live with the guilt? Honest mistake, but making me feel bad.

You're not sure and your opponents didn't call you on it and no one else witnessed the incident. It is your responsibility to call a penalty/breach of the rules on yourself, but there is also a level of reasonableness -- especially in a situation such as this when you are "wondering" vs. you know for a fact that something occurred. As the previous poster indicated, first ask yourself whether you gained any advantage by this little senior moment. Certainly there will be a modicum of quilt or even sour taste associated by the win, but what can the Committee do if you report that "you think you may have may be..."?
