Mickelson Course in Calgary

Here's the press release, windmill group has been making some big moves in the calgary golf scene, originally intended to be an Ames/Johnny Miller project Ehlert convinced lefty to take it over. Should be a good piece of property and will likely be enough to bring a Canadian Open to Calgary.

Interesting... The lower course at WR is crazy difficult, but sweet, so I like his style. But stretching it out to 8k? That's nuts.

Much better than letting Johnny Miller create some ridiculous abomination of a golf course. Ames would be better off creating 11 hole courses.

[/quote] I heard the lower is quite tough at WR, I've only played the upper. 8k isn't that much here as we're ~3500 feet above sea level.

I guess it depends on the condition and how the course plays... I'm familiar with the play at elevation (Bend is similar). I know this is WRX, but 8k is extremely long any way you cut it.

I'm excited to see how it pans out though.

[/quote] Yea I've been to bend lots and the elevation is pretty much identical, I think the threat of having it stretched to 7800+ will entice the tour to come there

I've only played one Johnny Miller course, Harmony Preserve, FL. The design is actually quite good.

8k in Calgary is 7200 at normal elevation.

When the PGA Tour Canada was here the players were taking anywhere from 8 to 10% off their yardages. Drives on the measure holes were 360+ on three of the four days, one drive was 374y.

Looks like Phil took quite a bit of yardage off the course. And I have to say I think this yardage makes more sense as the first layout didn't seem to have much yardage difference in the par fours and fives where as this course seems to bring different shot factors into play. $17,500 to join and 80% refundable isn't to bad either
