Iron loft question for todays new irons

I currently swing Hogan Radial forged irons that I bought new in 1984. After many hours of hitting different iron and shaft combinations over the last month or so I've pretty much decided upon the Mizuno JPX EZ's with XP105's +1/2" and 2* upright +1/2". As part of the discovery process, I researched the loft specifications for both the Mizuno's and the old Hogans.

What I found, was that when I compare the lofts of both sets, the Mizuno's are practically one club stronger in loft than the Hogans.

For example...... Hogan 3 iron = 23* Mizuno 4 iron = 22*

Hogan 7 iron = 37* Mizuno 8 iron = 36*

 

So in theory, I should be able to hit the Mizuno 8 iron as far as I hit the Hogan 7 iron today correct?

Is this change in loft something that is common across all new irons today or is this something unique to the Mizuno line?

Mizuno is probably the one company that strengthen iron lofts the least. Some new iron models are up to 1.5 clubs stronger. The launch angle and spin affects distance, but identical lofts should yield very similar distances.

Stick with your hogans boz...everyone wants to hit their 7i 170+...redonkulous??? it's not how far but rather do u know where it's going...get a jdm forging, the jpx ez is good and forgiving but it's not that good and won't last like those timeless classics you're gaming...

Today's lofts are crazy. A std PW used to be 48 or 49. A lot of sets the PW is 44. I just tweaked mine 2* weak to get to 46 in the PW. Hit that like an old 9 iron.

Check the shaft length too. Equal length shafts and equal lofts should produce similar distance so your Mizzy 8 is really a Hogan 7 iron...
