Veterans' store finds

just for the halibut,,scored a couple of drivers at the vets store.

King Cobra 440SZ 10.5 with Cobra YS-5.1 shaft

Olimar Tri-Metal mirage driver 11

paid about $ 9.00 for the pair. A little bit of toothpaste and stiff brush and good as new.

two large bags of shag balls at $2.95 each. Probably around 100 balls.

Not the best deal, but just killing time while SWMBO did her clothes hunting.

edit: upon closer inspection, I found the bags of balls contained a good many Pro V1's, and V1x. Also one Balata 100. I call vet store shopping my "Forrest Gump" experience. "You never know what your gonna git".

yep, I've never tried Cobra products other than a hybrid, and I don't much care for the modern behemoths of drivers today, so the 440 is a good compromise. I swung it a few times in the back yard with good results, nice feel to it, and a different sound. Who knows, it may even knock my R-7 Ltd out of the bag. Also, I figure that a 10.5 loft of that vintage used with today's balls, would be somewhat equivalent to lofting up to accommodate as marketed by TM. My first Titanium Driver was Titleist 976R and only a 9.5 degree. Well, wait a minute, I forgot about the Howitizer which had a very short life span with me.

in the anecdotal/fwiw department; so far, I really like the Cobra. Of course, I say that about any new gizmo or piece of equipment that I happen to procure. Honeymoon phase I suppose, but this one feels as though it will last. I had been thinking about buying a new Bio Cell, mostly for the adjustable hosel and the fact that I have been a little disappointed with TM's offerings. Then I got to thinking that with the adjustable, once set, no need for further adjustment. I may yet, but maybe the experience of the Cobra relic, will give me some idea of their product. And, yes, I am one of those guilty of NOT getting properly fit in the first place and continue the quest in the OTS stuff. Incidentally, is not Cobra under the Acushnet umbrella now?

EDIT: got curious and looked it up. Cobra is owned by Acushnet and is in Carlsbad Ca, What I did not know is they were bought up by Puma. Got its start by Thomas Crow whom I understand was the inventor of "The Baffler". I should have known that, as I have about five years of pay stubs laying around here some place signed by Acushnet. I worked in the club production facility in Escondido before they moved to Carlsbad/Vista.

I've always preferred a smaller head, played Persimmons most of my life, The 440 seems big to me, but not as much as the 460's. I tried TM SLDR-mini, 14 degree loft, and its OK, but found it to balloon up frequently. I have nearly a complete set of Olimar Tri-Metals now. They are different, very low profile and take some effort to get comfortable with. I currently have found a 11 degree, 13 degree, and 21 Degree.

If you intend using the Cobra in proper club competitions I would check to see if it is of the conforming type as the 'Hi Cor' clubs with the trampoline effect clubface are not permitted in official comps run under USGA/R&A rules.
Don't intend to rain on your parade but I have known of players being dq'd when a beady eyed opponent has seen and reported it.

that's okay. I think it is conforming, but no matter as I no longer compete. But thank you all the same.
I did a little research (looked at some old reviews). Nothing mentioned there. I learned that the SZ refers to "Sweet Zone" and stamped on the sole is "sweet zone / .830. In practice I noticed that all of my impacts were pretty much smack dab in the center. (dust on the face).

Given my name, it shouldn't be any surprise that I love the Orlimar Trimetals!

I won a spelling bee in 7th grade. Biggest accomplishment in my life (so far).

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
