Riverbend CC - Houston

In lieu of the the gent who has done a review off Sweetwater and their conditions I figured I would throw one out there for those that care on Riverbend...which is in the area.

Course conditions for as long as I've been a member have been phenomenal. Greens are always rolling true and the fairways stay plush. The atmosphere is amazing and there are always good games to be had.

I'm moving Sienna Plantation in April but looking to join Riverbend for that exact reason. Played there back in October and was thoroughly impressed! We won't see the end result of Sienna's new greens until this summer but the group that manages the course has a poor reputation.

Yeah, the people who now own Seinna also own River Pointe and Greatwood. Not much to rave about either of those courses. IMO, Greatwood use to be a wonderful course which seems to be run with minimal investment into maintaining it. Sienna has always struggled with the greens and I wouldn't have too much confidence in the current ownership to fix the problem even with new greens.

I think Riverbend is a pretty cool course. Hopefully they'll maintain it now that they've had their GM and other personnel leave to Sweetwater.

I need to try to get with you one of these days and get out there. That's a bit of a journey for me to join there, but I'd love to play it. I don't get too many opportunities to play private clubs.

Especially since evergreen is closing up shop...from what I've heard

That is still up in the air. Lots of politics involved in that one, literally.

It is under contract for sale, but that contract is contingent upon the city council approving the rezoning permit from General recreational to SF1 (mixed density single family residential). Now the city is mulling over buying it and keeping it open as a course. They have even brought in the National Golf Foundation and did a feasibility study for the city to operate it, and what would need to be fixed/replaced.

The neighborhood is suing to try to stop it, and they are pressing forward with trying to sell it. It's getting messy, which is quite unfortunate.

Riverbend has been well groomed every time I've played it.

They have plenty of water, keeping the course lush.

Been tempted to join several times, and was a member at Sugar Creek twice.

I had a Japanese friend who came close to buying it some years back. He also considered River Ridge.

His wife finally convinced him that running a golf course in Texas, from Japan, wasn't a good plan.

He decided to sponsor a JLPGA tournament in Hiroshima instead.
