John Letters Master Model MK4 (are still playable)

Recommended Posts

I haven't found anywhere on purpose to say hello, so I do here.

My name is Juan (John) and I came from Spain. I live in Málaga, one of the bes places to play golf in the world.

I have and play a Ping Eye 2 full set with irons and woods and a Ping Eye 2+ also full set, and i love them. I have both the blonde and the black woods and a Zing 2 blonde wood.

Ok, I have found a full set of John Letters Master Model MK4 and I would like to know from which year are those blades and if they are still playable.

Are they comparable with other better know blades?

Here is a picture:

Best regards, Juan

Welcome, Juan from Spain.
I am sure some of our brethren will chime in later to give you some information on the John Letters. How do you like the Blonde 2 wood? I have played the driver and the three and still consider the 3 wood as one of the two best I have ever had in my bag.

Randy from South Carolina.

Hi Randy, I haven't try yet the blonde ones ( I bought them yesterday with the full ping eyes (non plus) set froim the same guy is selling the Letters as you can see in the pictures before I bought them) I like the black ones and I think they are similar. Will try them thursday or friday...The ping zing 5 wood cames with a Ping Aldila graphite shaft. Is the first one in the picture..wonderfull!!!

Thank you.

Those laminated irons look FLAT! I'd love to try one!
[/quote] Did you mean "laminated woods"? The irons are forged blades, isn't it?? I have just bought them, from iron 2 to 10 but number nine is lost...a pity..but only 10 € euro. Hope to try them as quick as possible.

And here's why!
Fred Daly and Dai Rees returned from a US trip in 1947 or 8 and asked John Letters to make a copy...only better.

And in case you were thinking that this is a blatent piece of design poaching, have a look at this 1926 Hickory design, which I believe started this pattern of club. Tommy Armour was with Spalding in the UK and this pattern appears in the Spalding controlled Robert Forgan steel shafted clubs of the 1930s.

I have just try them this afternoon and they feel better, longer and straighter (and the same Iron is physically shorter than the Ping one) than Ping Eye 2 and Ping Eye 2+....So I'm very happy with them. Is the first time I hit a blade and I'm handicap 36 so I'm thinking that everyone can use a blade...It's a pity don't to have the 9 iron...The set is from 2 to 10. Cant wait to buy another set of blades:

With the blonde woods the story wasn't so good but I can`t hit well no wood...or driver...

Here are my Mk2 Master Models from 1958, original leather grips, and fully playable. Yours will be just fine to play.

Hello Juan, and welcome to the forum.

Some people love the leather grips, and if not too far gone can be preserved for further use. When golfing, a quick wipe with a damp towel keeps them nice and tacky.

If they are really dirty, a good scrub down with dish soap, hot water, and a nylon brush is great to get the dirt off, then follow up with leather conditioner to keep them soft.

My current driver has a leather grip that is older than I am, and it still works great.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
