DG X100 or S300

Much Difference??

I'm on the fence here. Currently playing X100's and thinking of going back to S300's. Just wondering if there is really that much difference that warrants making the switch. What would I gain or lose? I haven't been on a launch monitor but I hit my 6-iron around 180-185 and with mid-high trajectory and driver SS is around 112. Swing is short and compact rather than long and flowing. Any thoughts? Am I playing to siff of shafts?

S300 RSSR is 80-90; X100 RSSR is 85-95

 

The general rule is play a stiffer shaft for accuracy and a softer flex for distance. Silly rule for irons though...you don't want distance, per se, you want consistency.

 

There is no direct relationship between Driver swing speed and Iron swing speed so I would say first of all you need to get your iron swing speed checked. For example my irons swing speed is 74; my driver 104. I'm Ernie Els with my irons, Tiger Woods with my driver!

 

When I fit golfers I like to fit them on the high end of the swing speed range, it just makes the shaft more versitile. To really solve this question I would get your iron swing speed checked (5i) and plug that number into the RSSR's of the shafts.

 

One final thought: Every time you hit an iron shot you should be looking for consistency in distance and accuracy. Every 6i shot should be 185; 7i 170, 8i 155 (or whatever your gap is). Typically if a shaft is too flexible the ball will want to draw too much and you'll be inconsistent in your distances, plus and minus yards (of course mis-hits will give you a lose of distance too). Pick a shaft that is going to give you the smallest deviation on distance.

I think the X100's should be good, but the S300's would be fine, but will give you a little higher ballflight. It is the reason I went to X100's from S300's, I hit my irons high and the X100's help me control the flight better. I hit my 6 185, so we are pretty similar.

nobody has mentioned hard stepping the s300s or soft stepping the x100 s to get an in between flex.

 

its a wonder TT hasnt re introduced the s500 or is the manufacturing too consisitent these days.

TT Dynamic gold surealy is not the only shaft for strong players?

There is only a 5mph swing speed gap, I doubt that hard or soft stepping would make a difference.

i wouldnt take Golfsmith's RSSR as gospel.

 

X100 are much stiffer than S300's in my opinion.

 

Soft sepping X100 s once or twice might work out.
