PING Tour 80 shaft review

my shaft was delivered from PING today. It feels WAY too soft in regular.

 

Wet noodle soft. Then Tour 65 in S felt like rebar.

 

What's the deal?

 

 

I say screw it... I'm ordering Tour 80 in X flex. I need the weight, as well as harmonious buffering of my aggressive downswing.

Go get fit. If you didn't like the 65 stiff why bother with the 80X. Makes no sense.

Need a little extra weight for tempo, and X so I don't over flex the shaft in the downswing, closing face.

Anyway at my golf store, getting "fit" means hitting at the simulator while nice mister floorsalesman watches you and let's you pick out what feels good.

My tour 80 came 1/2" longer than the tour 65 I replaced. Both stiff. They feel similar to me in flex, but prefer the weight of the 80.

Interesting....i am looking to move down to a tour 65 / 60 R from stiff. I have been wondering if tipping the shaft a 1/2 might help it play as more of a tweener between R / S

Per Ping, the Tour 80 in R is a 68g shaft. Starting with the i25, I noticed they've joined the crowd of playing monkey games with the shaft labeling compared to actual weight spec. So you really gotta check specs now.

How much of a chance did you give the Tour 65? I agree you won't like the Tour 80 Stiff if you didn't like the Tour 65. You're right about floor Salesman... he's a Salesman. Find a pro fitter... or maybe you'd rather trust your game to a Salesman?

The Tour 65 was too light. Head not heavy enough to flex. Head built fur 45.75 shaft, not 45.25. Couldn't feel head.

Tour 80 R hit at range today. Liked extra weight. Liked flexing shaft. Hit two to back of driving range, voicing in woods at 300. Very pleased. Very straight.


Considering a shaft-binge on ebay to find "the one" (partially serious).

I have the Tour 65 X at 45" in my driver and Tour 80 X at 42" in my 3 wood. The Tour 80 is significantly stiffer than the 65 X and it probably has to do with the length. My driver SS is 119 and the Tour 80 X at 42" is almost too stiff. It is one of the stiffest shafts I have ever swung. I have a Tour 65 X coming that will play at 46" soon.

Update guys: at 97-102 SS, I'm bombing my LS TEC with Tour 80 Regular. I can't say dispersion is better, per se, but evil snap hooks are gone. I'm actually catching fades a fair amount.

Maybe the hard fairways are inflating my ego, but still I played a former home course and hit some long bombs to places I've never seen (even from middle tees). Driver GW to 444 yd hole. Forgive my enthusiasm, but things like this really get me excited.
