Spalding Cannon are clubs from the mid-late 1980s, and, while not a store line club, were a notch below Spalding's proline offerings. Basically, the successor to the Executive and XL4 level of clubs. I'm guessing here, but based on the earlier XL4 (which I owned) and Executive models, these Cannon are most likely laminated maple. My XL4s had TT Pro Fit (standard weight, mid bend point) shafts, Execs TT Jet Step (standard weight, low bend point). Flexes were designated, ie stiff/reg. Combo flex shafts started creeping in during that timeframe, FWIW. Should be well worth...??? They are players, not collectibles. Finished laminated maple heads used to cost around $20 ea. from good component houses those days, if that helps at all.

Cheers thanks for the info

From the 1987 catalog.

I have to respectfully disagree these were anything other than top of the line. They were heavily advertised on the golf television of those days. No one would do that with a club that was less than top of the line.

My wife played the Driver and 4 wood for years, and we still have multiples of each. Oddly enough as someone mentioned in another thread regarding another Spalding 5 wood of the day (XL4?), the Cannon 5 Wood had a funky shape that neither one of us liked. But the other woods were excellent.

How much would I pay? Same as for anything else. As little as possible!

Oops- didn't mean to sell the Canon short. Didn't realize they were proline at the time. For some reason, I thought that Tour Edition was the Big Kahuna of the Spalding line back then. Oh well, memory fades and the brochure doesn't lie.

It was me with the funky XL4 5 wood, btw. Never got along with that one in the slightest. I really enjoyed reading the spec sheet you had posted in one of the other threads with the early '80s Spalding lines. Those XL4s were the first "nice" clubs I ever had and it was cool to see the actual lofts and lie angles, so thanks for that. Very cool.

You're welcome! Unfortunately I don't have a spec sheet for the 1987 catalog. They didn't send it or I would still have it. One man's trash is another man's library.

The first year the Cannons were out only metal woods were available. The laminated woods didn't arrive until the second year. Those early metal woods weren't immediately accepted by everyone. The Cannon metal woods weren't bad at all, but people today would be stunned at how tiny they were compared to today's offerings. Oddly enough, many of us did just fine with those tiny clubheads.

Remember the hollow Executive XE irons, perhaps the first full set of hybrid clubs? While metal woods were available, they also were offered in a laminated model that was painted gray in order to look like metal to some degree. My dad had a set of the irons, and one day we were stunned to discover that despite the fact they had ferrules they were a shaft over hosel design. One of the ferrules slipped and there it was!

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
