St Andrews ballot singles combine?

Hey, so I'll be with my partner in Scotland in the middle of May and I have to have a crack at getting onto St Andrews. I've read how it all works when you're by yourself, show up early, put your name down.

 

It's disappointing single golfers can't enter the ballot so I was wondering is there a local website or location in town that a single golfer could match up with another to form a 2 ball to have a chance at the ballot? At least it give another shot at getting on.

 

Anyone been to St Andrews and got on the course other than lining up early? Grateful for any tips thanks.

This may not be much help, but I sent an email to my sister in law / brother in law who play the Old Course a few times a year.

 

She asked around their club and said the common response was to try a "local" golf forum to that area. If I understand her email correctly, I guess on some golf forum websites specific to the UK. Some "foreigners" as she referred to post up they are looking for a playing partner to pair up with as you note. Listing dates, hdcp, etc...maybe offer up the first pint?? or 3 -4 of them LOL Not sure how that will go.....?

I'm pretty sure if you ask the golf concierge at the Old Course Hotel, he'd put you onto the daily list that he submits for the ballot. He obviously does this for guests of the hotel, but I'm reasonably sure that if you just popped in from the Jigger, he'd throw you in the mix.
