Sport Sensor SS Radar - Long Drive Training

This is a great little tool to get an idea of where you're at swing speed wise and a MUST for anyone trying to increase their speed. Just got this as a Birthday present and it's pretty awesome. I've been swinging indoors with a Ladies PW (don't ask) whenever I can't make it out to the range or simulator, and just started using this. In terms of accuracy, I can't speak to it 100% but I think it's in the realm of pretty accurate. Maybe 3-4% fast at the most. All that really matters in this regard is consistency of the unit, and I've found it to be extremely consistent.

However, there is a huge difference when swinging with/without a ball. As much as 25-30% sometimes. Most of my SW practice swings were in the 60-65mph range. After hitting the ball most were in the 80-85mph range. Similar differences with the driver.

Went to the range last night to test (low 40s here in NY last night) and swung away. Ended up putting it in the ball holder, probably 5-6" away from the tee on iron/3w shots and more like 8-10" away when using the Driver. SW was anywhere from 80-87ish and Driver ranged from 118-124. I got 1 rogue 130 with my 3w, but I think that could've been an error.

All in all, this is a really nice tool to see improvement(s) in your swing speed training. I'm going to make it a point to update this thread with any progress that I see. Going to start using this as a LD training tool for fun, because even Jamie Sadlowski wants to hit it further. This is what I've seen so far with my Driver: Callaway X460 Tour - Aldila NV 65

Highest SS - 124 (not counting the potential error of 130)

Overspeed Training: (Just an old Aldila NV 65 shaft)

Righty swings:

Left arm - 162

Right arm - 164

Both - 149

Lefty swings:

Left arm - 140

Right arm - 152

Both - 129

Obviously I need to get my Left side stronger, which should help develop the 'decelerating' muscles. Jamie talks about how important it is to work both sides, so I will focus on that as part of my training. I also routinely stretch at home as well as body weight exercises. Hopefully by the start of the season I can see some progress. My goal is 135 max and a 'comfortable' 130 swing. Will update with progress.

Went to the range yesterday (mostly for wedge & iron work) and had some fantastic results in that regard. I wasn't really focused on SS numbers, honestly, but still paid a little attention to them. Again, I wasn't really swinging 110% for the SS numbers because I was more focused on the iron work. Just wanted to post again because I wanted to reassure that I will be updating this thread with numbers. All my numbers were down with JUST the shaft, but my iron SS and 3W SS were the same as last session, if not ~1-2mph faster. Again, not very detailed results, but I'm confident my numbers will steadily increase. Will update again with better info when I do some SS training this week.

Oh...I also got 1 reading for 169mph with my 3W. That would make me the fastest swinger in the world (*takes a bow). :) Lol.

Didn't go any left side swings, but got some improvement from my right side.

Righty swings:

Left arm: 160 (-2 from highest)

Right arm: 166 (+2 from highest)

Both arms: 149 (Tied for highest)

Again, I didn't go too crazy but was able to get some pretty solid numbers.

The numbers appear to be going up which is expected,,your true CHS is the speed your swing on the tee box with driver in your hand. I see most people take some big warm up swings just like swinging a shaft ,only to set up over there ball and take a rip slightly over 100mph ,,,CHS is something you need to work on to to improve for sure but need to be able to transfer that to the tee box,,,I always finish with swinging the driver last over a tee just to enforce the golf swing or when training for LD as apposed to SS training swing,,, I don't know what your goal is CHS but if you pop 125mph thats very good. I also think applying swing speed training for irons is wrong,it only applies to Driver,,you will be faster by nature of training ,but to many factors are more important with iron play,,,your only goal with driver in long and straight ,,,

Totally agree. I only do the SS training when I'm either at the Golf store hitting balls, or at the range. So I always swing with the Driver afterwards. I'm going to be playing my 1st round of the Season tomorrow, and will have my radar with me.

Truth be told, I've actually been warming up with the shaft only, taking hard swings. I do Yoga before leaving for the range almost every time, but should probably warm up swinging some clubs first, then get into the swing training. Might see more increases that way.
