Good Putters?

hey all,

I'm really having trouble finding a putter. I've finally earned the money to buy a putter after working hard. As of right now, I use a putter that I picked up from Target. I play tounament golf, and have a handicap of about 8. I would appreciate any suggestions for putters. Thanks a lot!

I would suggest the Ping G5i line. They are very highly rated (see golf digest hot list for 2007), and very reasonably priced. And, you can get fitted for it. Just my opinion.

Let me make a dumb observation, but your signature shows that you're currently putting with an Odyssey 2-ball...and that you're currently looking for another. Either way, your current putter is a good starting point for what you'd like to make your next. Would you like more feedback, less feedback (auditory/feel), harder, softer, bigger, smaller, more forgiving, more visually appealing, face-balanced, toe-heavy, heavier, lighter, longer, shorter (easier to make a longer putter shorter than the opposite, given that the headweight is sufficient), or cooler branded. :tongue:

Putters are hard, you really got to try 'em all out and see what you like. One thing you might want to watch out for are people who simply prescribe the putter that is in their signature (but on the other hand, that's often the one that they've found after a long search, so I don't hold nothing against them). I only say that because of ALL the Ping putters, I like the blue insert putters second worse, only to the Isopures, but for the most part the worst aesthetically (they messed up the look on all their tried-and-true lines with that alignment thingie :friends:). Whatever works for you though. :russian_roulette:

I think whatever putter you end up choosing you have to feel confident with it...

Certainly the choices are vast out there but generally whatever feels best to you and gives you that injection of confidence as you sit over the putt should motivate your decision...

It's interesting..one time I was reading a Gary Player interview and he stated that one day he was in Japan with Arnold Palmer poking through some "ginza shop" and found a putter sitting in a bin marked down to $5...he tried it..liked the feel and look and picked it up...believe it or not...he said he used that putter for over 30 years and won several of his major championships with it...he said one day a piece of lead tape fell off of it and it was never the same so he retired it...

It's amazing how you can become attached to one putter..

I've had mine for over 2 years and have tried all kinds of putters but in the end my Newport 2 keeps it's place in my bag...
