wondering about shaft stiffness

I am currently playing a Titleist D2 with a "By You" proto stiff shaft. I am really struggling to get this shaft to turn my head over to hit a draw. I am losing a shots to the right. It is good ball flight, but is a squirting fade. It is driving me nuts and really want some more control. When I swing easy the shaft is easy to control and this is when I get a perfect fade. But when I want to turn one up and rip it or if I want to draw a ball, I cannot seem to get it to do its job. Would it benefit me to send it back to Titleist get a X flex put in. The stiff "By You" seems to be a little whippy anyway. Any information would be appreciated.

id think youd want to go reg./firm flex instead of X if you are unable to turn over the stiff flex.

I have a VS Proto 70 X in a Hibore Tour XL and it is really hard to turn over. It's the most anti left club I've ever hit. The head is about 3 degrees open though. Now back to the shaft. My SS is around 115 and the X feels great. No snap hooks at all which tells my this shaft is very stable.

 

You say your misses are right? Most of the time if a shaft is too soft the ball will hook from over flexing. Now sometimes it can go right as well if it's too soft but it will be a ballooning high right. If it's low and right then the shaft is too stiff. I do think this shaft is anti left or more anti draw though. I might put one in my 425 TP and see how it plays.

I had the Aldila VS Proto 65S in my D1 and had same problem as you. Almost every shot was a fade (7-8/10). I think the shaft itself is tip-stiff plus the bore-through made it even stiffer. Maybe you could try going to a regular flex.

 

I ended up re-shafting to a Fujikura Tour Platform 27.3 Stiff (that plays to a stiff flex).

 

Probably the best thing to do is see a club-fitter.

Agree with the above members....

 

The VS Proto plays AT LEAST a 1/2 flex stiffer than stated. If you're somewhere between R/S or S/X, definitely play a flex softer (shelf the ego) and watch this bad boy perform!
