Hilarious Launch Monitor Session

Help?

Was at the PGA Tour Academy in St. Augustine Florida this past week and amongst MANY helpful things they did to my swing they put me on a launch Monitor. The numbers weren't so good, Maybe you could recomend another shaft without changing drivers or loft?


**I should mention this was when my swing was at its worst part of the week. However, I'm still not hitting the club like I did when I first got it, which was PHENOMENAL**


Swing Speed 118mph
Ball Spead 161mph
Launch Angle 8*
Ball Spin 3300rpm


All those shots were kind of weak rising fades, which is weird for me.
When I got the driver, they were nice high drives around 290, sometimes more!
I'm currently Using a Grafalloy Blue X in a Hi-Bore 8.5 That I got almost a month ago.

are those numbers for solid contact? the lowish smash factor seems to indicate that you are not making great contact, and the ball flight you described seems like it could be due to hitting the ball low on the face, (or pulling up on it a little), which would lead to the low launch angle w/ a rising, fading flight. . .just a thought. . .

with such a low launch angle and high spin rate, it sounds like you're hitting down on the ball

I thought this was going to be a funny story...

 

I had one...

 

Went to the PGA Tour Superstore in Frisco, TX near Dallas. I had a coupon for a Driver Analysis. Gave it to the lady and asked if I could warm up, she said No. I hit 3 drives with my 905R 9.5 then 3 with the D2 9.5, both with the same V2 stiff shaft. I hit one good one and 2 lousy ones with the 905R and 2 good ones and a lousy one with the D2. They were obviously different, the good ones went about 275 with a little draw, the lousy ones I got stuck on and hit blocks out to the right.

 

She takes the data, takes the middle hit for each, which is a lousy shot 250 yards with the 905R to the right vs. a decent 280 draw with the D2 and tells me that the D2 is obviously a better driver. It was about 5 minutes total.
