Swing Analyzers: Swingtalk vs. Epson Epson M‑Tracer MT500GII

Recommended Posts

I am trying to compare and gather more user feedback on inexpensive swing analyzers that I can use on a whim whenever I get some free time during the week at the range to get some relatively accurate info on my swing.

I have come up with 2 that I feel will give me what I'm looking for:

Swingtalk

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PVKG6D4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480216602&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=swingtalk+golf+swing+analyzer&dpPl=1&dpID=41xonkfAzfL&ref=plSrch

M-Tracer

https://www.amazon.com/M-Tracer-MT500GII-Golf-Swing-Analyzer/dp/B00VTXDAQS

For those of you who have either or something else, can you post your thoughts? I'm torn because I like the fact that SwingTalk has a putter feature and that M-Tracer has an "uncock" feature that gives you data if you're releasing too early, holding lag is something I'm working on continuously to maintain.

I personally like the Zepp 2 because of its ease of use. No switching the device between clubs. In my opinion, there is too much force being applied to the device for it to survive over time with just a plastic mount. Just my opinion and I have not tested durability of other devices to find out.

FYI: After about 6k swings I stopped using the Zepp. Overall my favorite feature was the video. Can leave the camera on a tripod and it cuts the film for each swing. You can then compare the video with the analysis and 3d model for each swing.

The Zepp does not do face angle at impact which is the only minor complaint. Definitely got me out of the 100's quickly after a 17 year break from golf. Breaking 80 will take time and practice.

Face angle is not important in my case because I'm using it outside at the range. If indoors where you can't see ball flight, face angle is more key to knowing what the ball is doing. I hit my 4 iron to make sure I'm not casting (uncocking). Uncock = stinging hands

I still think the mounting system for the butt mounted devices is destined to fail and the devices that attach to the shaft are clunky. Both versions require too much effort to swap between clubs. Just my opinion.

Best current available devices:

Zepp > Skytrak > GC2 / Trackman Poor > Rich

I had Swingtalk for about a week before I returned it. It was wildly inaccurate. Do yourself a favor and pickup a SkyPro. The reason the SkyPro is better than most is that the unit is directly calibrated to the club your swinging (via a process where you lay the iPhone/iPad across the face of the club). No other unit uses this calibration method... and it shows. ;)

The shop at the Skypro website isn't working and the Epson isn't available at there website, great sales job.

I am not even sure the last time Epson updated the app etc. I recently started fighting a hook and looked at what the M-Tracer was telling me, see below. Out to in path with a closed face at impact will do it. I didn't even realize how strong my right hand grip was getting so I weakened it a tad and concentrated on my takeaway begin too wide.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
