Whats the Workout / Get in shape plan for the New Years???

Gonna revive this one. Starting up a new program on Monday. I'm a fairly active outdoors person hiking backpacking with goals to start getting into bigger mountains and snow covered ascents like Rainer, Whitney via the Muir Route, Shasta, Hood, CO 14ers etc. My goals are more about the long game and endurance vs short burst stamina and arguably minimally useful strength coming from programs like cross fit. It had been hard to find a program (granted was not looking incredibly hard for one either) until I came across this book recommendation on one of the Rainer climbing guides websites.

So I picked up this book to develop a training program. Even though the book is about mountain climbing the training ideas and format can be changed to train for pretty much anything including golf. I start my 8 week transition period on Monday which is essentially training your body to train. The most counter intuitive thing is I start at just 4.5 hours a week of training ramping up to 6 hours a week by week 7. I timed it out so my rest week #8 is the week of our vacation and the first week of stage 2 is the week I start the AZT(804 mile trail through AZ from Mexico to Utah) so most of my endurance cardio time will be on trail vs gym and during the week when not on trail I can continue to work on core, flexibility and strength which will help both hiking speed, stamina and my golf game. By year 2 I should be in an incredible position to start taking on some big mountains like Rainier without much effort(relativity speaking). Some very intriguing concepts and ideas in here for anyone looking to build endurance and all around body strength (bikers, runners cross country skiers or replace some of the climbing specific exercises with golf specific ones to build golf fitness. Even if you have no desire to climb mountains I found the book is well tailored to guide you on your own path to train for whatever your goals are. Also some very cool side stories about different climbs and situations as they relate to some of the training principles.
