Sea Island (area) Golf Trip -- Need Help

I organized a trip to Sea Island in April for 12 guys. We are staying at The Inn (Lodge was booked). We arrive on a Friday and depart on a Sunday so there are only two nights. We are playing 18 Fri, 36 Sat, and 18 Sun so we won't be focusing on the nighttime activities as much as the daytime. I'm thinking about Colt & Alison Friday night to keep it mellow then something off campus Saturday night so some guys can stay out if they want.

 

Please help me with reviews of C&A and also some recommendations for casual options with a lively atmosphere and decent food. I assume we can Uber to/from wherever we go.

Colt & Alison is great. Since you're staying in The Inn, The Lodge and Colt & Alison will also be "off campus" but not too far away. Both are on Saint Simons. The night you go to Colt & Alison, get there before sunset, get some drinks and grab some chairs on the back patio and watch the bagpiper walk down the 18th at sunset. Then take a look around the Men's Locker Room and the Pro Shop at The Lodge before dinner.

 

For your other night, I can't recommend Delaney's enough. It's close to The Inn and probably the best food I've had on Saint Simons. From there, you can go to the upstairs bar at Bubba Garcia's if you want to stay out later.

 

And don't skip going to Southern Soul BBQ on the day you arrive or leave.

I would like to mention, that if you are playing on the day you leave and you have the option, try and get on Brunswick CC. It's better than 2 of the Sea Island tracks in my opinion. Only Seaside tops it.

I would 100% recommend the Men's Locker Room at the Lodge. First Class. Crab Daddys is a middle of the road good seafood restaurant. Gnats is fun during the day if there is a good game on. You have to have Southern Soul BBQ though. Its a must. Best BBQ EVER!!!

I know this is after the fact, but if anyone ever gets the opportunity to play Frederica, it's a must play. Played it last week and the entire thing was just top notch, from the Fazio course to the clubhouse to the food to the friendliest membership and staff I've ever encountered. Won't ever forget that one. Well done, Frederica!

C&A is also jacket required i think. FYI. Great food and great setting though! I love that place! Curious as to how you got on at Frederica?? Ocean Forest is another GEM on the island.

Couldn't find Jeckyll Island in the search....so reusing this thread. I have an opportunity to tag along with the wife for her conference on Jeckyll Island first of November. She will be conferencing...I will be playing golf.

 

Is the golf here any good? Or would it be better to venture out a bit and play the Sea Island courses. Golf and dining suggestions welcome.

One of the Jekyll courses ia pretty good. Forget which one. If you're a member of a club, have your pro call Brunswick CC (Donald Ross design).

 

Other than that, king & prince on the island is a nice course. It's down the road from Sea Island.

The Jekyll island courses are ok, Oleander being the best of the full courses, the par 3 course is fun though. They are very affordable.

Brunswick CC is awesome, worth it if you can get on. King and Prince is good but probably not worth the price or travel when compared to Jekyll.

Other than that there is the Sea Island resort courses and they are playing a PGA Tour event on 2 of the 3 of them mid Nov. so access may be an issue, they will be very expensive, its peak season.

 

The dining options on St Simons are already mentioned in this thread. Jekyll dining is typical touristy beach fare and nothing special, go to St Simons if you're looking for quality food.

Wanted to circle back on the trip in case it would help someone down the road.

 

Found out the hard way that you have to stay at Sea Island to play those courses....so I played King and Prince, and Jekyll Oleander. King and Prince much nicer, and greens were immaculate. Wasn't that impressed with Oleander, and the other courses didn't look much better.

 

Foodwise....we did the Wharf on Jekyll (pretty good), Blackwater Grill and Southern Soul BBQ....both of Diners, Drive-In fame. BG was excellent (shrimp and grits, and those boudin fritters). SSBBQ we tried the headliners...ribs and pulled pork, both very good....but the link sausage, paired with that mustard based BBQ sauce....stole the show for me. And coming from a Texas native, that is a seal of approval. Mustard BBQ sauce? Who knew.

 

And lastly....noseeums in November? You guys didn't warn me about those bastards. They were everywhere, both golf and the outdoor eating. Worse than mosquitos IMO....you can't feel them land on you until its too late.
