Anyone else stuck somewhere right now due to the Delta outage? This guy has been in ATL for 2 hours trying to get back to Phoenix. Couldn't be more tired as spending the weekend at the cold, rainy, Rolex 24 at Daytona...

It was a bit brutal last night. I sat in Atlanta for 6 ish hours. Landed in Phoenix at 3am local time. Considering I was coming from the east coast with a 2 hour time change, it was a bit of a long day.

But at least I made it home. I know a lot of people trying to get out of Atl ended up sleeping there.

Yeah but that race was awesome, at least on tv it was! Worth the delay in my mind but I understand it was a long weekend.

Travelling actually stresses me so much that i develop rashes. A lot of that is psychological but i despise it because stuff like this happens to people a lot. It took me 20 hours to get from Dallas to Montreal recently and that's without spending the night anywhere. I had a trip once with 6 flights overall and 3 were cancelled (3!!!!)

And if you're in the Northeast it's even worse due to weather.

Ahh i hate travelling. And i do it a lot LOL

It took me 20 hours to get from Dallas to Montreal recently and that's without spending the night anywhere. I had a trip once with 6 flights overall and 3 were cancelled (3!!!!)

I too hate flying. Between the a**hats at the TSA, and the endless delays...Once a year I like to take a long distance train trip. I relax, read, and look at the passing scenery. Unfortunately train travel in the U.S. is only a notch above third-world levels. If I'm not mistaken, it would take 2 or 3 days to get from Daytona to Montreal.

I don't necessarily mind air travel, I just set my expectations really low. Having TSA Precheck helps with a lot of the frustrations of security. You don't have to disrobe, don't have to expose yourself to the radiation of the scanner and generally don't have to take your bag apart. That helps a lot. But I mean in 2017, there is no reason beyond a cyber attack to have full scale system outage unless there is pure incompetence and a lack of following standard IT business process. Even with that, a company which is so reliant on automation should have some type of real time replication where they can immediately cutover to DR and keep operations moving. At least from an operational stand point of getting people on planes and getting the planes off the ground. After the systems were back online, we waited another 2 hours as they still had no record they could use to board planes. The only planes which were able to take off were the ones which had their 'paperwork' completed just before the outage.

It ended up taking me 14 hours to get from Daytona Beach to Phoenix. My sister took a little over 12 to get from Columbus to Seattle. That's utterly ridiculous. Delta should be completely embarrassed and ashamed over what happened on a national scale on Sunday. It's eye opening as to how archaic their technology infrastructure is. And this is coming from someone who has spend the better part of the last 5 years working in Oil & Gas, which is an industry that is generally behind in terms modern technology.

Side note, Wi-Fi cost $22 for the duration of the flight.... $22.... for 4 hours of internet access...

Terminal A in Atl basically shut down at 10 pm. all the shops closed up and went home. I ran out of drinks and snacks (I mean I didn't really bring anything or pick it up beforehand because I didn't think I would be traveling for 14 hours lol) and couldn't even find a bottled water or protein bar. Nothing until we were at altitude at 1 am-ish and the airline could make a water and pretzel handout run.. by that time I was just trying to sleep...
