Ball placement, in regards to stance...

middle ok for all clubs, except driver?

I have recently found that I am more comfortable hitting all clubs from middle of my stance, and the lower clubs 8, 9 , w, sw back of center. I know some will say if it works for you, do not change it, to which I agree. However, just wondering what the positives and negatives could be for the average golfer. I am a 7-8, have not really kept track of scores till recently, so I don't have a real number. I am a very high ball hitter, this ball position has not cost me any distance as of yet. So, just wanted to get some opinions as I know a lot of guys on here are very knowledgable.

Centered, constant position works well for me, except driver, and the fw wood just slightly in front of center. FWIW, what sometimes appears to the eye to be a centered ball is actually a little forward in the stance so, if you are curious, you may want to have someone else look at your ball position and alignment at address.

I have astigmatism in my right eye, so I think I tend to let the ball get BACK too far in my stance. The result can be fat shots or hooks, most commonly.

Moving the ball too far forward can lead to higher shots and a lack of distance, but it sounds like you know that already.

I think that ball position is also relative to a couple other things, like a forward press of the hands (with irons), open or closed stance, etc. I'm hitting the ball much better these days, and so getting my ball position correct is having more of an effect on my shots.

Some people advocate a CONSTANT ball position relative to the front foot (it ALWAYS stays inside of the left heel, with only the back foot changing with each club. Hogan was a proponent of this, as are many others. Makes sense -- it just takes practicing and seeing what works best.
