Hogan Redline observation/question

Because one set of classic blades is never enough. I picked up another set of Redlines. One reason being, I didn't want to mess with the set I had - it was in such nice shape, with original grips.

 

Of course the set I got is in even better shape. And, the shafts are a better fit. And for some reason they were recently regripped before being put up for auction... It's all good. It's also nice to see that each set has slight variation in grind. The toe on older set has a slightly sharper toe in the 4 iron at least.

 

But, one thing is strange. The hosel is only pinned on one set. The older set doesn't have pins and the more recent purchase does. Any Hogan experts out there know what's up with that?

I knew I couldn't be the only one!

I picked up a beat up set of "no pin" Redlines that had been reshafted with older Apex 5's earlier this year.

Glad I am not the only one. Still couldn't find any reason in that thread. I have a set of Grinds without a pin, so I am assuming that later in the manufacturing they just up and stopped pinning them.

 

Works for me, as I can just pull the heads off the others and reshaft them sometime down the road.

 

By the way, nice taste in putters (and clubs in general).

I picked up a Redline set that had two heads without pins. It was suggested that they were produced for a non-American market. No clue if this is true. The heads looks identical in all other aspects.

There could be other reasons design wise, but the lack of pins is likely due to the fact that, like techology, epoxies and adhesives have improved over time.

My set (bought in Sweden, I'm second owner) is all pinned, so if they're made for foreign markets it's not for all foreign markets.

Glad there are a few others out there. What I think is that the later release models went without. This was a transitional time for pinned shafts from what it looks like.

 

I don't know for sure, but it makes sense and now I can get some sleep.

 

By the way (I am happy the set without pins is the way it is. Gonna make it a lot easier to get rid of the shafts.

Ha. I only bought mine for the shafts! It's not too often you run into Apex 5's.

Checked my redlines today and they have the pins in...must have been in the middle of this model that they started going without. I wonder if anyone knows the date they stopped?
