Breaking 100, 90, 80, and 70

They all have their significance.

Breaking 90 is the generally the accepted criteria for being a golfer, someone who can play in the 80's generally can enjoy the game and can hit some great shots throughout the round, someone who scores consistently in the 80's generally has an idea what they are doing and can keep it in play most of the time. Think of the 80's as kind of a hobbyist score. This score set makes up the bulk of most club players.

Breaking 80 is generally the criteria for being a pretty good player, you move from being someone who is into golf and golf being their primary hobby to someone who is considered "good" at the game by most people. By breaking 80, I mean to be able to do it consistently and in a tournament sets you apart from most and you are likely an A or B player in your Saturday morning club lowball, depending on the type of club you play at and the types of players. Put two of these guys together that have different strengths and you have a very dangerous 4 ball team. Probably 20-30 of these types of players at most clubs.

Breaking par or 70, puts you in the status of "accomplished player", you hit a lot of great shots and have a good short game. At this point playing in city and state amateur events is definitely a thought. This person is an A player at the Saturday morning lowball and is always one of the ones in contention at the club championship. Usually there are 5-10 of these types of players at any given club.

The above are just my observations of what I see in clubs around my area

The most important is dependent on where your game is currently, some people are satisfied with where they are at and simply want to remain there, others constantly want to improve. That is the beauty of golf, there is a spot in this game for everyone.

This season I have broken 90 three times, which I'm proud of. My best 85 at my home course. I seem to be shooting in the low 90's now consistantly. I have played more this season which was my objective since last season I was shooting high 90's low 100's.

Now that I'm getting close to breaking 80 more I start to notice the shots like a lost ball or unplayable lie or a duff is keeping me from being consistantly below 90. I have dropped my handicap from 20-22 to a 17-18. I'm proud of my accomplishments thos season so far. :beruo:
