BAD BAD BAD TRYOUT................RANT

Wow, so it has been a very long week. Tuesday we played 18 holes walking in about 97* heat as we did Wednesday. I played so horrible I think my dog could have played better. It wasn't even I played bad... I had like 6 or 7 tripple bogeys this week. Tuesday I shot 92, Wednesday 90 and yeasterday we played 9 and I shot 45. I usually shoot low 80's. I'm the first alternate on my JV team right now. That is very bad. This is very bad. I need to do something, today is the last day we are playing 9 holes and I need to beat the kid ahead of me by 3 to gain my spot back.

That sucks, i remember in grade 8 i shot 50 in my first tryout but followed it up with a 38 so i was in like 7th(team carries 10) so just dont give up and beat that kid

That sucks major man. Our coaches keep averages and make us take tests and all that, but they dont really go by em, the best golfers and those with the most potential get all the playing time and thats it, not like our team is going anywhere.

 

That said, I thought I was gonna miss JV last season, I qualified at 54. I got to play 6 spot (last) on JV at the first match we played. The wind was just ungodly, it messed with a 2 foot putt. I shot a 44 ("medalist" best score on that squad and standing low round of the year), and as a result got thrown onto our struggling varsity team I played 6 all year, but only because the coached didn't think they could make a winning team by moving people around. I shot a 115 at an invitational and failed to lose my spot. I got my scoring average down by over 6 strokes from the previous year and from the last qualifier. Point is, the putts can start droppin any time, greens can be hit, though it may not always seem that way. Relax about your spot a bit and start playing for yourself. You'll get back down there eventually.

Don't worry about it, you're probably just pressuring yourself to shoot a lower score, but they will come. I shot two 48's in a row during the first two days of tryouts and then just focused on making good swings. I ended up shooting a 40 with a triple on 9 because I started to think about scoring again. I was the first alternate in our first tournament just because I played so terribly on the first two nines, but I should be back in the rotation for the rest of the year. Don't worry about scoring, it'll happen.

My friend, a 5 handicapper shot 53 the first 9 holes of tryouts last year, I told him not to worry about scoring and just play some golf. I know it sounds cheesy but if you don't focus on scoring, just putting the ball from fairway to green and 2 putting, you're gonna be fine. He closed with a 38 and made the team, finishing the year as the #2 player on varsity as a freshman. You'll do fine if you just take it easy.

this last year that just ended i didnt even have to tryout for the team i already had a spot haha..........but we still played with the kids who were trying out to keep score and monitor cheating and i topped my tee shot on the first hole about 35 yards.........went on to shoot 37 thought haha

we all have our off days/ week or weeks... just try to think where you may have been struggling and see if u need to work on anything... dont give up, just play your game
