brother's swing

wont listen to me!

this is my little brother hitting a five iron into a par 3 green, the hole is about 200 yards at the local public course earlier in the year. to be fair he did hit a good shot close to the pin. anyway, he refuses to accept my help/advice, refusal to show weakness or admit i am better than him at anything!

he is 16. say what you make of his swing, any thoughts, and have a guess at his handicap.

then i can either mock him or praise him later. he is curious as to what an audience that doesnt know him think.

good swing, i bet he hits it a long way. id say his uk handicap is around 7.

difficult angle to see the swing from but looks like he is out of his shoes through impact so trying to keep a more solid base might improve consistency

he does go at it yeah. he hit that one harder than normal because it was a 200 yard carry to the par 3 and i be he couldnt make it with 5 iron. its cold in england during march so the ball doesnt fly far. however to his credit he made it easily and stuck it to four feet before missing the putt.

 

more guesses at his handicap and then i'll say what it is!

id say 12 because he plays other sport so does not concentrate on golf. if he did could get to a decent single figure handicap

he doesnt have a handicap at all! he plays golf once a month or so, once every two months maybe, never warms up, always hacks the first hole, and always breaks 80.

 

its fine in that i can beat him comfortably most often, however, i cant help but think he should apply himself to golf given that he is fairly decent. he doesnt even have any of his own clubs he just uses any old clubs he can find in our garage, which normally mean my old ones!

You can not tell someone's potential by how they hit a 5 iron. You can tell their potential by the way they think their way around the course, and their ability with a wedge and putter.

thats very serious considering the thread is only poking a bit of fun at my brother. we were both wondering what others would make of his swing, irrespective of his short game! generally people with better swings have better short games, a pretty strong correlation there. although we dont need pedantic people to give exceptions because that is just indicative of someone who is quite tragic.
