In the Kaplan compilations- The1965 MacGregor Catalog also shows Aluminum inserts. If memory serves me, these were among the last irons Toney Penna did in collaboration with MacGregor.

 

Have seen 3 RH MT iron sets, but to my knowledge, MacGregor never offered any LH iron models like this, but there are a few with the "Flame Ceramic 4000" faces.

 

A LH MT iron like these would be extremely rare.

MT3W. Got the whole set of woods after getting the irons. Don't think they're the exact same vintage, but close.

FWIW, John who runs the Advanced Ball Striking website rates them very highly. I've never hit them but would love to. The closest thing that I've hit to a true flatback iron is probably the Hogan PTIII:

 

Although these have a bit of the blade-on-blade design. I found them to be much more playable and forgiving than I was expecting.

 

They're was a time when I was actively shopping for a set of the '66 RMT2 but I never did find what I was looking for. I'm still curious, especially about that face design: would it be a visual aid for sweet spot striking or just a distraction?

 

But I've already got iron sets in the garage I've never played so I really don't need another. Hope you find a good set, though.

According to the Kaplan book the deaign was indeed to line up the ball! I juat got this text for 5 bucks, itis amazing reading the old Macgregor adds. I have a ser on ebay in my watch list.. I might pull the trigger this week.
