Mizuno Swing Weight Question

Recommended Posts

I’m on my second set of Mizuno irons. Both built by Mizuno with “A” head weight. Both standard length.

First was Mizuno MP 54 with S300 (127 gram). Second is JPX 919 Forged with PX LZ 5.5 (115 gram). My understanding is that Mizuno tries for a standard swing weight of D2. Given the difference in shaft weight, would these two sets come in at the same D2 swing weight? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Can't say what Mizuno will do - but there is little correlation between shaft weight and resulting swing weight for a given head weight. Shaft designers are not ignorant of swing weight and many will adjust the weight distribution and shaft balance point to compensate. So don't make any assumptions about what might be needed based on the shaft weight.

But lots of factors go into the final swing weight so it's always best to check the consistency of sets that come out of any factory. Just realize that some companies that do adjust SW do so based on a 50 gm grip. So if you're using a grip that's heavier or lighter the SW scale wont compensate for that.

Thanks for the feedback. I play standard GP multi-compound which I believe weighs in at 46.5 grams. My new irons with the lighter shaft feel lighter (naturally) to swing, but the club head itself feels somewhat lighter as well. It might just be my imagination or an adjustment period after playing the same setup for 6 years.

feel is more important than what a SW scale will say. get some lead tape and play around with adding various amounts to dial in the feel.
