Old school putters

Who uses them besides me?

Despite all the new popular MOI putters (2-ball, Futura Phantom, Hawk, 2-Bar, etc, etc) and all even the Ping Anser copies, I still keep going back to my Bullseye Heavy Flange (33/350)...I really like the Simplicity of it and the feeling is pure when hit in the sweet spot. Yeah, it's not the most forgiving putter in the world, but it works for me. I just think the design is pure and "uncomplicated." I continue to "dabble" with other designs, but seem to always gravitate back to this "old school" (aka - classic) putter.

Does anyone else here use an Old School putter like this or a Wilson 8802-type blade? I'm surprised more pros aren't still using them, especially ones who are big on feel (the exception being Phil).

I have been experimenting with Gauge Japan, Tourstage as well as several Scotty's, but I keep coming back to blade type putters. Currently it's this Betti BB2.

 

 

I love the simple look and the feel of blades. Hence the small collection.

That's an awesome collection!!!! Those blade certainly qualify as old school to me. Played with a guy using an 8802 a while back...he was deadly accurate from inside 10'. Those blades are truly a work of art.

IMG 5, you're right about the SC Bullseye being more forgiving than the original Titleist model. In fact, the 2005 model has weighted plugs in the sole to provide even more balance and forgiveness (thinking about getting one!).

 

I sure give a lot of credit to all those great golfers who putted so well with blades before the advent of heel and toe weighting --- ala Karsten's Ping Anser. Guess there's a small part of me that's a purest (but that doesn't mean I'm goin' back to persimmon drivers :lol: !).

I have an old Walter Hagan Cascade that I put in the bag on occasion. Sets up better to my eye than any other blade putter. I had an oil can Napa in the bag for 5 years but since going to the 'claw' grip, found that a heavy tour issue Modena works better with that grip and stroke.

 

Still think the Cascade is best blade putter I've used but also the least forgiving.

Nice collection Pitbull! I also have a Bullseye original (gave away my heavy flange to my nephew a few years ago) with an aluminum shaft. I think the aluminum shaft really imparts a lot of feel that some others don't have. The grip on the Bullseye is original and is kind of slick, but I haven't decided what kind to replace it with. I'm afraid I'll lose the touch that I have with it if I change anything!
