R7 shaft choices

I am looking to get a new driver and have been spending a lot of time in the launch monitor to find one that works for me. My G2/Aldila NV combo hits way to high so I am looking for something to bring my ball flight down.

My best results were with the R7 quad 8.5 set on neutral. Launch angle finally came down to 13 or so on a consistant basis and spin was in the low 3ks. Now it comes down to shaft choices. I swing at 95-100 on average with a pretty quick tempo. I looked at the NV in regular but it added too much spin to the ball. So now, it has come down to the MAS 2 shaft vs the Aldila NV.

 

I was getting my best results with the MAS shaft in the monitor but I dont know much about this shaft.

Anyone have any input on the Aldila NV vs TM MAS 2 shaft?

Who makes it?

BTW, I am not going to spend big money on a ultra high performance shaft so it has really come down to these two shafts for $$$ reasons

Ironically I believe it's Aldila who makes the MAS 2 shafts. It plays 65 grams which is the same as an NV-65 and has 2.9* of torque compared to 3.5* in an NV. In my opinion you should stick with whatever is giving you the best performance on the launch monitor as it is a good measurement of what i going to play best on the course.

I am thinking of sticking with the stock shaft since the results are there. At least in the monitor.

 

What I havent done is hit the 8.5 with the Aldila NV stiff. They only had two 8.5s in stock: one with a reg flex NV and the stiff MAS.

 

Just something "un-cool" use a stock shaft but I should just get over that and listen to the real numbers

 

I should have it here by Wed so the course will tell. I imagine it will take a little getting use to but if the numbers are anything like the monitor I should pick up some good distance just from the flatter trajectory

I'm pretty sure Mitsubishi makes the MAS shaft.

 

Actually, I think I read somewhere that Fujikura makes the MAS shaft for Taylormade.

i thought fuji did? i played a round with the r7 (non tp) with the stock shaft in s flex in the fall of '03 and hit it very well...so whoever originally posted this thread, don't feel embarassed to play it as u mentioned if it works

The MAS shafts in the R500 line were not something to write home about.

The MAS line in the R7's is actually of better quality and if it works - keep it as is!

Fuji, makes the MAS shafts for the R7 and like everyone says if you hit it well on the launch monitor keep it. The numbers don' lie.
