Early extension is a the new age term. You mostlikey will block the s%%t out of it.

Well I stopped thinking about how pretty my swing needs to look and then went back to basics.

Lots of practice with half swings or three quarter swings...you are in a stuck position on your down swing.

Just keep it simple : start with keeping the club head outside your hands (On the Back swing) and the clubface square with you left foreare(2nd)through out the swing I got from someone else on this board.

I will say do not be afraid to turn your lower body in the swing (hips).. You have to make room for the right elbow..

I'm not sure I understand your post. I suggested he search using the term "early extension" because that is what "standing up at impact" was called in several very good threads here.

In the swing/fitness forum index, look at the "important topics" section above the "forum topics" section and you'll see the 'Reference: Swing Faults- Early Extension (Hip Thrust)' title there. Probably a good start for your search. Hope it helps!

Golfdog, I believe what he is refering to is not getting the club trapped whick forces some better players to early extend or as Slicefixer would say "it looks like they are trying to screw a goat at impact!" I suffer from this problem. My experience has been it is a combo of flexibility issues and swing plane. If my plane is too in to out, I have a tendency to early extend.

Thanks golfchicago

Thats exactly what I mean : the player is stuck so they have nol choice but to stand up... They are winging way to in --> out ..Really a bad feeling. Being a good athlete requires being flexible.... however, read slicefixers posts on swinging left.

One of the common cause by the change of the wrist angles from setup vs impact , flip cast, or improper alignment, thus distance increase. Thus to compensate, the player either chicken wings, or stand up through impact or he will miss it fat.

Or the low point changed that need to stand up through impact.

Or the balance is too much in the toe of the feet intead of center of the feet or towards the heel . IE balancing the Upper body too much .

Or trying too much In-out the pivot have to stand up to do that.

but the first is the most common. There are others i think.

I saw a drill on The Golf Channel back when they had Academy Live a couple of years ago. The player was the Bristish LPGA player who won the Women's British Open a couple years ago (maybe '05?). She made like 2 eagles in the first 3 holes in the final round or something amazing like that! Anyway, the drill was one to help her stay in her posture and not raise her spine angle. It went like this:

1. Tee up a ball maybe slightly higher than you would on a par 3 with a 7 iron.

2 Address the ball as normal

3. Without changing posture, choke up (or is it down...I've never been 100% sure) by 3 inches or so. The club should now be hovering above the teed ball.

4. Swing and hit it....you will have to increase spine angle or you'll miss it completely.

I hope this helps. She was on with her instructor and they both said it had made a huge difference for her.

Wish I could recall her name...she has one of the best swings in women's golf I think...very compact.

I've been working on a "drill" called "reach over the fence" from the TPI website. Basically the idea is the maintain the distance of the right hip from a shaft stuck in the ground while "reaching back". This has given me a lot more space for the right elbow in the downswing. Unfortunately I struck to ball great on the range but was thinning a lot of shots on the course but I think that was more a result of hitting too many drivers with weight preset back and shoulder angle setup at around 20*. I sort of got that grooved and having trouble getting rid of it with iron shots, so a lot of big drives and crap iron shots lately.

How's your setup with your driver? Sometimes if you setup too far away from the ball, as your swinging back down your balance may shift forward towards the ball... and to stop yourself falling over you stand up.

It's probably more common with fairway woods (end up with topped shots), but can happen with driver. I picked this one up from Butch Harmon.

Of course, there's plenty of other issues that could be contributing to you standing up at impact.

Let me know what you find that works for you.

Cheers

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
