fairway wood for women

Hi ,

I need help choosing fairway wood for my gf. I am thinking of giving my gf fairway wood clubs for Christmas. However, most of women's fairway wood on the market are just men's fairway wood head with women's shaft.

This doesn't make much sense because women's average height is shorter than men. Furthermore, the average swingspeed for women is slower than men's (recreational golfers). Is there any fairway wood that is designed specifically for women?

My gf is 5'2 and her swingspeed is around 75-85. She is also a beginner.

:) Please make suggestions and your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try some La Jolla clubs for a beginner like this one

I would recommend...

King Cobra COMP Fairway Woods - here

about 4 girls on my team have the cobras with the graphite senior shaft. my dad has 2 and he loves them. i've hit the cobra before and it makes a real crisp ping noise that sounds very rewarding and it is a cool looking club.

when you buy a mens club for a lady the only thing that you might have to change is the shaft flex to ladies or senior and maybe the length and definately get the right size grip. the head of the club is not what affects the swing, it is the shaft.

even though the woods are a christmas present, i would recommend her to try them all out to figure out which flex and mainly which clubs she likes the best and work the best for her. good luck!!

I strongly recommend the TM Rescue FW woods, (not to be confused with Rescue Mid hybrids). These are available right now at super bargain prices and are designed for extra high launch along with high spin. (The perfect ingredients for slower swing speed players).

These have shorter shafts than standard FW's which is also good considering your wife's height.

I actually bought some of these for my wife in Men's Senior Flex and she just loves them, but there is a Ladies version of these too. Golf Habit on ebay is selling them right now, but Golfsmith and TGW also have great closeout deals on these. My wife used to really struggle to hit FW woods before she got these. She has these (3).

Rescue FW 3-wood (17*) Men's Senior graphite shaft length just 42"

Rescue FW 5-wood (20*) Men's Senior graphite shaft length just 41.5"

Rescue FW 7-wood (23*) Men's Senior graphite shaft length just 41"

The clubs shown above will actually play 2 degrees higher than stated loft because the COG is so low and there is so much spin in produced. In fact, these have to be the easiest FW wood club to get in the air ever made. For most of us these hit the ball too high, but are likely perfect for the wives and gf's, (unless yours happens to be a low handicapper with a much higher swingspeed than the average lady golfer).

What the professionals play is somewhat irrelevant. Take the lady somewhere where she can test drive clubs that fit her. Notice, I said clubs that fit her. The typical golf shop or demo days has clubs in standard and maybe senior flex and all of them much too long for anyone under 5'8". To tell her to choke up on the grip just won't cut it when it comes to getting a controlable set of clubs (irons or woods). If you want her to enjoy the game and get the most out of her own strengths and abilities, please please please get her properly fitted by someone who actually gives a rat's a.. and has the knowledge, equipment, and demonstration clubs to get the job done. No more than you will be happy and play well just because it's the same driver that Tiger is using, your girlfriend may or may not be able to control the same stick that Annika is wielding so successfully these days.

Thank you all for your advices again. I tried to get her properly fitted by GolfTown (large Canadian golf chain) once before, but they told me a beginner doesn't have a consistent enough swing to benefit from fitting.... so...

I got my gf to demo Taylormade Rescue and Cobra SZ. She prefers the Rescue, so, that is what she's getting for X'mas . ^_^

A full-blown fitting is probably pretty difficult without some sort of swing, but atleast they should be able to get some sense of proper length and after viewing few of her efforts, an indication of whether she will be better off with what kind of flex. If she is confident with the club you purchased, that's half the battle. Hopefully, whomever she takes lessons from will be able to make coherent recommendations for any changes that may be necessary as her skills develop. At this point, it's most important that you are patient and encouraging and play with her often.

Without a doubt the best Women's FW is the TaylorMade Rescue Fairway wood. (Not to be confused with the Rescue-Mid). The shorter than standard length FW shafts on those will be a benefit to her as well since she is just 5'2".

TGW has them!

HI, I think this probably comes too late, however, I had a callaway 3 wood-couldn't hit it off the deck, then an erc fusion 3 wood-onlyl occasionally hit it off the deck-most of the time I just topped it. So I decided that I really needed to find a 3 wood-my drives need help-and test drove a lot of 3 woods-out of desperation I grabbed a nike sasquatch and I couldn't believe how well I hit it-20 yards longer than my fusion-so I traded it in right away! I really never thought I would purchase nike-especially a sasquatch, but I am impressed with what I was doing on the simulator. I would suggest that you let your girlfriend try as many as she can-it really is a personal preference and you never know what might suite her swing!
